Plato Learning is Hiring a Program Coordinator Near Queens, NY

Program Coordinator at Outdoor Adventure and Mythology Summer Day Camp

Title: Program Coordinator

Employment Status: Exempt/Seasonal

Company Summary:

Plato Learning operates outdoor mythology-based day camps for kids ages 7-15. They create a world where
monsters, myth, and magic transport kids out of the mortal realm into one where they are empowered to

develop new skills, take risks, solve problems, and ultimately become Heroes. With sixteen locations spanning
from NYC to California, Plato Learning uses actors, live-action role-play, and physically and mentally engaging

activities to bring myths to life.

Are you ready to join the team and accept our call to adventure?

Job Summary:
We are hiring energetic leaders and adventure role models to serve as summer Program Coordinators. at several
camp locations. Program Coordinators are responsible for enhancing programming and engaging all campers
that come to Plato Learning for our brand of hero-training, epic adventures, and unforgettable other-worldly
experiences. Our Program Coordinator brings collaborative Myths to life with our campers. While similar to
live-action role-playing, we put more emphasis on immersive world-building, prioritizing imagination and
camper experience over production. The immersive opportunities this role creates gamify the story and support
a new week-long adventure arc each camp session. Additionally, Program Coordinators assist the Camp
Director with daily operations to keep Camp running smoothly.

Job Responsibilities:

Engage the Demigod Campers. Lead and engage campers in activities that grow to meet their development
with an enthusiastic tone. They encourage campers to take risks, participate, and explore their own personal
limits, while celebrating the heroic strengths they already possess.

Organize the Hero’s Journey While the Camp Director organizes the camp schedule, the Program
Coordinator is introduced to our camp activities in the pre-season and further develops them. In camp season,
they adapt each activity to support the week’s adventure storyline, immersing campers and sta alike. They keep
the scheduled activities exciting and running on-time through a quick-thinking and adaptive mindset.

Train Heroes to Lead. Program Coordinators help facilitate Counselor and CIT training, task them to lead
activities with condence through service-leadership, and come up with new ideas to keep programming
running at its highest potential. Whether it is a core activity like sword training, or an elective like Potions-
Counselors are inspired to be enthusiastic leaders by following your exemplary spirit.

Bring Stories to Life and Initiate Magic. Plato’s immersive storytelling weaves a mythology-inspired story
throughout a week at camp, culminating in an action-packed “Quest” adventure. Campers or “Demigods”
experience Quest within their parks, using critical thinking and problem-solving skills, interacting with actors
playing monsters and heroes alike. The Programming Coordinator builds an immersive and active
story-engagement experience these demigods will remember for years to come.

Build an Ensemble. With the help of the Quest Development Team, Program Coordinators review performer
submissions and put together their diverse ensemble of independent-contractors for the summer. Quest Guides
understand the importance of telling a culturally responsible story, and cast their ensemble appropriately. They
schedule training, rehearsals, and improv exercises to empower their actors to make adaptable character choices
that center the camper’s experience.

Be the “Call to Action”. We believe the best learning comes from serious play, and the Program Coordinator
provides the Call to Action- organizing and leading larger activities, like the Olympics, or the Final Battle.
Crossing the threshold to camp puts Demigods in their own realm, and the Program Coordinator guides them
to become the best hero they can be through uplifting and empowering mental and physical challenges .

Steel your Resolve. We are looking for courageous individuals who can lean into the challenges presented by
our energetic all-outdoor environment. As Leadership Sta are the rst people our Demigods look to in times
of challenge and uncertainty, we are looking for courageous individuals excited by the discomfort in adventure,
and who do not shy away from responsibility, in the heat of summer, or even when it is raining.

Embrace the Chaos. Child-Driven Outdoor Immersive Theater is rarely predictable, and often requires
thinking on your toes. The Program Coordinator embraces the importance of story, but also adapts to the
unexpected. When a demigod changes a story beat, or a schedule-change forces an adjustment to the plot, the
Program Coordinator meets it with a jovial spirit. They are capable of telling an eective, engaging story with
minimal reliance on conventional theater tech.

Rise to the Challenge. We believe that eective leaders prove their ecacy through action, and are prepared to
handle challenging situations with kindness and readiness to help. They can resolve conict in a constructive,
non-punitive manner that redirects to Story and engagement. The Program Coordinator, alongside the Camp
Director builds morale amongst Counselors and CITs by compassionately managing conict, unforeseen
circumstances with decisive clarity and high initiative. The Management Team cares for the Campers and their
team through service-leadership..
