REPORTS TO: Director of Outreach

LOCATION: Planned PEThood’s Headquarters in Duluth, Georgia

JOB SUMMARY

Contribute to our effective operation – be part of lots of different programs within our organization! You’ll help with our high-volume spay-neuter and wellness clients as well as keep our Outreach Program on track…from handling and transporting animals, keeping our warehousing organized to helping provide free vaccines to pets in under resourced areas, to assisting our clients.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assists the Director of Outreach with all aspects of the Go Fix Georgia Program:
    • Oversees departure and arrival of shelter animals including loading and unloading of shelter animals for surgery or return to shelter.
    • Oversees volunteers within the Go Fix Georgia Program.
    • Processes paperwork as appropriate.
    • Maintains a safe and healthy environment cleaning kennel spaces, vehicles, and transport carriers as well as other appropriate workspaces.
    • Drives Planned PEThood’s vans for animal transport and donation pickup (no CDL required).
    • Sorts, maintains, and tracks donations weekly.
    • Assists with offsite Outreach events on Saturdays (usually once per month)
    • Organizes and maintains warehouse and storage spaces to ensure proper storing of food, goods, equipment, vehicles, and donations.
    • Follows established protocols and procedures.
    • Carries out all duties in a professional and courteous manner.
    • Attends staff meetings as appropriate.
    • Maintains a pleasant and cooperative attitude toward coworkers.
  • Assists the Customer Care Team in all aspects of client engagement and customer service:
    • Answers phones and responds to all forms of client communication.
    • Takes client payment and records transactions appropriately.
    • Process pharmacy requests.
    • Files paperwork as needed.
    • Assists with trap rental and inventory.
    • Assists in maintaining a clean reception room/lobby.
    • Listens to customer concerns, handles complaints, provides appropriate solutions for customer care.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITIES

  • Physical Requirements
    • Must be able to work standing or sitting for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to bend and kneel repeatedly.
    • Must be able to see fine detail in a variety of situations.
    • Must be able to lift up to forty pounds.
    • Must be able to physically restrain and/or lift animals (training provided).
    • Must be able to control any applicable allergies appropriately.
  • Emotional/Mental Requirements
    • Must be able to work under stressful conditions efficiently and effectively.
    • Must be comfortable working with and around dogs and cats in a shelter environment.
    • Must be able to cope with death either due to surgical complication or euthanasia.
    • Ability to rapidly and accurately process information.
    • Ability to delegate tasks.
    • Ability to recognize a need for assistance and ask for help.
    • Ability to make decisions.
    • Ability to cope with frustrating situations and remain calm.

REQUIRED

  • Ability to work positively with potentially emotional clients – specifically able to de-escalate in times of confusion/misunderstandings.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to effectively read, speak, and write legibly in English.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish – verbally and in writing – a HUGE plus.
  • Willingness to learn animal behavior, characteristics, health, and handling or previous experience and knowledge a plus.
  • Basic computer literacy skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional appearance.
  • Must be able to work a four-day work week Monday through Thursday.
  • Must be able to work one required Saturday per month.
  • Customer service experience preferred, experience with rescue or shelter animals a BIG plus.
  • Must be at least 18 years old with a clean driving record.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The offices and operations of a high-volume spay/neuter and affordable care wellness clinic can be high stress and very busy at times. Exceptional teamwork is key.
