When you join PPGNY as the Community Programs Evaluator you are responsible for facilitating day-to-day operations of multiple on-going social science research and evaluation projects at Planned Parenthood of Greater New York (PPGNY). The work will be largely centered around Equity & Engagement programming for community outreach; group education for youth, adults, and professionals; HIV prevention and harm reduction services; and individual counseling and health services. The role will involve work with other PPGNY departments. Projects range from assessing community needs to implementation and outcome evaluation of services, as well as program development research, quality monitoring, and equity and engagement analysis.

This position will support the operational flow of data and information including:

(1) data collection in a standard and consistent manner following PPGNY and PPFA policies and procedures,

(2) data analysis and report writing that is appropriate to readers external and internal to PPGNY as a whole,

(3) development of measurement instruments;

(4) data entry and management in database systems such as Salesforce and SPSS,

(5) staff training and assurance of protections of human participants, accuracy of data, and adherence to procedures for data collection and management.

This is a full-time position located in PPGNY’s Region 1 (the five boroughs of New York City and Nassau County) and may require occasional travel to PPGNY Regions 2 (Southern Central NY) and 3 (Central NY and Bordering PA Counties). Work from virtual locations is possible under the guidelines of PPGNY policies and practices. This position reports to the Director of Program Evaluation, and does not provide direct supervision of other staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enter programmatic and research data into electronic recordkeeping systems (such as Salesforce, funder-specific and SPSS databases). Work with interdepartmental staff to plan for accurate and complete data collection from program participants and routine submission.
  • Query data for reports used by PPGNY’s staff, Board, and funders.
  • Review and summarize professional literature and gather community health statistics as needed to support specific projects (e.g., community needs assessment).
  • Assist in creating data collection tools, including programming of electronic surveys, and training of staff for data collection.
  • Enter, clean, and analyze data for reporting, including both quantitative (e.g., from survey data using SPSS or program implementation data tracked using Salesforce) and qualitative data (e.g., from structured observations or interviews).
  • Monitor progress of on-going evaluation projects and maintain documents related to project organization and record-keeping, and support with continuous quality improvement projects
  • Extract programmatic data from internal electronic recordkeeping systems to help answer program evaluation questions.
  • Collect data in the context of programs or research projects by conducting surveys, observations, interviews, and focus groups.
  • Create basic tables, charts, and figures from descriptive and frequency data.
  • Transcribe recordings of interviews or focus groups.
  • Support the coordination of work between PPGNY departments and with external community-based organizations such as meetings, data collection, and observations.
  • Order project supplies and provide other general administrative support to the R&E team as needed.

  • Ability to complete all responsibilities according to established state, federal, PPGNY, and PPFA protocols, policies, and standard practices in the areas of research methods, human subjects, data management, customer service, and ADA and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills;
  • Attention to detail and ability to enter data into electronic systems with a high level of accuracy;
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative program and community evaluation methods, as well as survey research and evaluation methods
  • Ability to use software to independently conduct descriptive statistics (e.g., SPSS, Excel, PowerPoint, Salesforce)
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with program staff while maintaining boundaries that support independent evaluation;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, education, or social science discipline (e.g., psychology, sociology, anthropology).
  • Two years of related and/or applicable experience in program evaluation, data management, and analysis. 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or a Social Sciences.
  • Two years of full-time work experience.
  • Work experience at a non-profit or other health care organization.
  • Work experience in the field of sexual and reproductive health.
  • Written and verbal fluency in Spanish.
