Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette is Hiring a Training Specialist - Education Near Portland, OR

Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette (PPCW) is hiring a Training Specialist to join our Education team! This is a grant-funded position currently funded through September, 2024 with potential to continue.

PPCW is the largest non-profit family planning and reproductive rights organization in Oregon and Southwest Washington.
The Training Specialist is responsible for the development and delivery of effective Sex Ed best practices trainings to school teachers and support staff, and community partners; providing on-going technical assistance to training recipients; provides direct implementation of Sex Ed curricula when needed (to school-aged youth). In addition, this position supports strategies to address overall goals of the project, including outreach and building strong community partnerships to ensure successful implementation.
Compensation: Starting rate of pay is $27.41 or more depending upon experience. Bilingual premium pay is $1.63 per hour, with an additional $1.63 paid for interpreter level skills. Annual step increases are determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Schedule: Full-time (37.5 hours/week) Monday - Friday; Schedule details will be determined with supervisor. Employees may be requested or required to occasionally work other days (including weekends), hours and locations to meet operational needs.
Position Details: This is a represented, hourly (non-exempt) position. This is a grant-funded position currently funded through September, 2024with potential to continue.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training/experience (2 years) in the field of education, health, sexuality, social justice or related field. Examples may include Community Health Education, Black, Chicano/Latino, Native American or other Cultural Studies, Gender and Queer Studies, Conflict Resolution, Theater, Social Work, Anthropology, Sociology, etc.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience educating adults (working with and leading groups of 20 ), including exposure to positive youth development and health programs, and adult learning theories.
  • One (1) year experience in each of the following:
  • Providing training programs and leading groups of adults.
  • Coaching and mentoring and/or team lead experience.
  • Developing training content and/or program curriculum.
  • Implementing sexual health education curricula with large groups of middle school and/or high school youth.
  • Experience with e-learning software and learning management systems (LMS) for employee training, corporate training, or leadership development.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to change including advances or new technology.
  • Demonstrated experience / ability in the following areas:
  • Collaborating and maintaining partnerships, as well as developing new trainings and expanding existing ones.
  • Working with diverse populations and ability to provide direction to programs serving diverse communities in a culturally appropriate manner.
  • Program design, presentation and communication (verbal and written) including ability to effectively speak in public to individuals and groups.
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio and video scripts.
  • In-depth knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models.
  • Visual design skills (e.g. Canva, Photoshop, SketchUp).
  • Experience providing ongoing support and feedback to training recipients.
  • Tracking and documenting program implementation.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, have access to a reliable automobile, and maintain proof of personal automobile liability insurance, at a minimum, in the amount required by Oregon Law (ORS Chapter 806)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with project management software (e.g. Asana).
  • Experience with any of the following software programs (or similar): Audacity, WhatFix, Kahoot, Prezi, Vectornator, Infogram.
Essential Functions:
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate various trainings using multiple platforms (i.e. online, in-person) in best practices around the delivery of effective, medically accurate, inclusive, trauma-informed and culturally responsive Sex Ed. Activities include but are not limited to:
  • Works with Education & Training Coordinators School District administration, classroom teachers, and community partners to identify target audience’s training needs. Conducts instructional analysis to clearly identify training goals, target audiences, knowledge and performance gaps and logistical delivery issues.
  • Assesses learning needs and advises participants on appropriate learning strategies that incorporate adult learning theory and sustainable design. Produces scripts, storyboards and collateral materials for review and input as part of the design process.
  • Adjusts and improves training content based on participant feedback themes gathered after each training.
  • Promotes collaboration, partnerships and relationships among the participants in a design project.
  • Designs, produces, and maintains learning materials that enhance the learning process including online learning modules and web-based training sessions. Utilizes a variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, and multimedia to support teaching, learning, and information needs.
  • Designs instruction that reflects an understanding of the diversity of learners and groups of learners.
  • Analyze and apply trends and best practices in learning technologies and instructional design theories, practice and methods. Maintains current knowledge of training techniques, including adult learning styles.
  • Visualizes instructional graphics, the user interface and the finished product.
  • Determines the criteria used to judge learner’s performance and develops assessment instruments. Devise modes of assessment, such as tests or quizzes, to measure the effectiveness of training content.
  • Administers and maintains eLearning and LMS systems, including general configuration and system updates
  • Provide on-going technical assistance and communication to schools, teachers, and training recipients.
  • Generate monthly reports for community partners, supervisors, and grantors as indicated; follow-up with supervisors to ensure completion of mandatory training requirements.
  • Attend and become certified in Train-the-Trainer trainings as needed.
  • Identify available resources for addressing program training challenges.
  • Support program evaluation and reporting processes.
  • Support colleagues in meeting grant objectives as needed which may include:
  • direct implementation of K-12 curricula as a way to model lesson facilitation for teachers,
  • observation of the curricula facilitation by teachers to monitor fidelity,
  • provide coaching/mentoring to school teachers,
  • and facilitation of Parent Information sessions.
