What will you be doing?

As a Coaching and Training Specialist for Permanency, you will:
  • Conduct one on one coaching with staff through observation, immediate feedback, and debrief discussions.
  • Provide coaching and observation of employee skill levels, behaviors, developmental needs, and strengths.
  • Provide instruction, demonstrate tasks, and support employees in applying information and strategies around Child Welfare Practices, policies, and processes.
  • Research, interpret, and articulate child welfare practice, policy, and procedure to families, child welfare staff, and community partners.
  • Collaborate with program consultants and trainers on design, delivery, evaluation, and administration of training.
  • Remain informed of services, benefits, eligibility requirements, and referral processes of agencies and community organizations.
  • Audit and review documentation pertaining to Court, Citizen Review Boards, case documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and adherence to applicable policies, statutes, and Oregon Administrative Rules and laws.
  • Model engagement skills that foster collaboration with families and communities.
What you need to qualify
  • A bachelor’s degree in social work/human services or related field AND one year experience with responsibility for child welfare case management (i.e., managing a caseload that involved case planning, placement decisions, child protection issues, or treatment interventions), or
  • A bachelor’s degree in any field AND two years of experience managing a child welfare caseload that involved case planning, placement decisions, child protection issues, or treatment interventions, or
  • An associate degree in any field AND three years of experience managing a child welfare caseload that involved case planning, placement decisions, child protection issues, or treatment interventions.
Essential attributes
We are looking for candidates with experience:
  • Preferred cross program experience in at least two areas (Protective Services, Permanency, Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), Teen unit, and Certification)
  • Awareness of and experience implementing policy and procedures, the
    Child Welfare Vision for Transformation
    , and the Oregon Safety Model.
  • Experience engaging and building collaborative relationships with community partners, agency staff, clients, and impacted communities.
  • Experience responding to urgent and emergent situations calmly, defusing emotionally charged situations, crisis intervention, problem-solving skills, and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Experience using time-management skills, organization, and prioritization to complete your work and meet deadlines.
  • Experience communicating with others both verbally and in writing, in a way that is easy to understand, culturally competent, compassionate, and respectful.
  • Experience preparing and presenting training to employees.

Working conditions
  • Your work will be conducted in offices, participant's homes, and other community sites.
  • Some remote work may be approved after completion of trail services, this will need to be discussed with and approved by your manager.
  • Occasional travel is required for attending meetings, trainings, and other case related activities.
  • Employee will work a professional work week; hours of work may fluctuate based on service needs. Occasional, compensated overtime may be required, including evening and weekend work.
  • You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma and may exhibit challenges in controlling their emotions.
  • You may encounter stressful situations that will require quick decision-making skills.
