Pioneers Medical Center is Hiring a Medical Assistant: Grand Junction Orthopedics Near Grand Junction, CO

Reports to: Orthopedic Clinic Director

FLSA Classification:PRN, Non-exempt, Hourly $18.58 $21.00 (Friday's)

The working environment is a normal clinical setting with exposure to sharps and biological and chemical agents. It is expected that facility safety practices and protocols are followed at all times.

Essential Functions
  • Assess, plan, delegate, implement, and evaluate patient care which includes: making pre-appointment calls to patients; working with referring physicians to ensure quality of patient care; obtaining vital signs and patient tracking information; obtaining appropriate information, specimens, lab results, etc to prepare patient for the clinical provider; assisting physicians with procedures such as minor surgical procedures.
  • Responsible for providing direct medical care in the scope of a Medical Assistant under the direction of the supervising RN and/or physician.
  • Operate and maintain appropriate orthopedic medical equipment
  • Perform instrument cleaning and prepare for sterilization.
  • Document all treatments, procedures, document and provide patient education, and medication administration according to clinical charting guideline.
  • Perform blood draws and suture/staple removal as directed by physician.
  • Recognize and address patient/family education needs.
  • Recognize and evaluate changes in patient status and initiate action when appropriate.
  • Perform other duties within scope of practice
  • Other duties as assigned.
Scope of Practice Includes, But is Not Limited to:
  • Administering medication to patient.
  • Preparing patients for examination, including draping, shaving, and disinfecting treatment sites.
  • Collecting blood specimens.
  • Arranging exam room instruments and equipment.
  • Call in prescription orders or refills to the pharmacy as ordered and approved by the physician.
  • Joint aspirations, casting, splinting, and applying braces.
Education and Experience
  • Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Current, unencumbered Colorado RN license is required.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, TNCC, and PALS or ENPC are required within six months of employment or transfer.
  • Knowledge of current nursing trends and practices, utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Previous experience working as an RN in a healthcare facility required

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.   • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to move and traverse about the facility 50% of the time.
  • Frequently transport objects weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Occasionally position objects weighing up to 100lbs.
  • Must be able to communicate and exchange information in a way others will understand.
  • Must be able to recognize details such as color and depth within a few feet of the observer.
  • Frequently operates computers, machinery, and other healthcare equipment
  • Constantly positions self to complete essential functions
  • May be required to wear N95s or PAPRs throughout the shift.
