Hiring Range: $23.92 - $28.71 Per Hour
Full Range: $23.92 - $33.49 Per Hour 

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.
These two (2) positions, perform journey-level maintenance, repair, diagnosis, troubleshooting, construction, fabrication, and preventive maintenance involving commercial-level plumbing systems, which includes Commercial Fire Protection Systems, FP piping modifications, new installations, main fire pump repairs, and replacements.As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class. Work assignments may vary depending on the department’s need and will be communicated to the application or incumbent by the supervisor.
  • Performs commercial-grade pipe fitting, fabrication, and installation of ductile iron, copper (potable and DWV) steel, stainless, cast iron, high-density polyethylene, and PEX.
  • Performs commercial drain/sewer system repairs and replacements including ABS, DWV, cast-iron, and C900.
  • Conducts natural gas piping for low- and medium-pressure systems, black-steel threaded and press connections, HDPE fusion piping, and CSST.
  • Installs/maintains lift stations, ejection, and sump pits.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of UPC, IPC, NFPA 13, and NFPA 20 codes and guidelines.
  • Repairs detention facility plumbing and performs new installations including penal ware and ligature-resistant plumbing fixtures.
  • Excavates large-scale underground piping system installations, modifications, and repairs.
  • Maintains central plant process installations and repairs heating, condensing, and chilled water systems including commercial and industrial-size boilers.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of backflow prevention and cross-connection control measures.
(1) Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in the plumbing trade or craft and one (1) year of journey-level experience in the same. 

(Relevant education may substitute for up to six months of the aforementioned experience.)


OR:


(2) Five (5) years of experience as a commercial journey-level plumber.

OR:

(3) Three (3) years of experience with Pima County as a Trades Maintenance Specialist in the plumbing trade or craft. Some positions may require additional specialized training and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
  1. Experience with/knowledge of UPC and IPC codes.
  2. Experience with/knowledge of backflow prevention/cross-connection control.
  3. Experience with/knowledge of commercial, industrial, and residential plumbing.
  4. Experience with/knowledge of all phases from rough-in to finish.
  5. Experience with/knowledge of threading machines, power tools, sewer machines, and hand tools.
  6. Experience with/knowledge of installing, connecting, and testing water, sewer, gas, air, and vacuum lines.
  7. Experience with/knowledge of excavation safety/confined space and fall protection.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidates from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.
 Licenses and CertificatesValid driver's license is required at the time of application. Valid AZ driver's license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Some positions require a valid Arizona commercial driver license (CDL) with appropriate endorsement(s) at the time of appointment, or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation period. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards, rules, and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing. Certified as Approved Backflow Tester or able to acquire this certification through Pima County sponsored training withing 6 months of hire date. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.Special Notice Items: Due to the need for access to law enforcement, detention, or correctional facilities, some positions may require satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by law enforcement agencies. Some positions carry the risk of exposure to infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, asbestos, or wastewater products, therefore special medical screening prior to or during employment may be necessary to assure employee health and safety. The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
