Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
PIC has a very exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Commissioning Lead to support a 125MW construction project in Ohio. The Mechanical Commissioning Lead reports directly to the Project Manager, and will provide site support and oversight for the commissioning activities, focusing on the mechanical aspects of the CHP Project. The Mechanical Commissioning Lead will be responsible for reviewing the planning and coordination of activities, review of Contractor’s deliverables, and the acceptance of Contractor’s works with respect to quality, functionality and contract adherence. The Mechanical Commissioning Lead will ensure all internal and external commissioning interfaces, and manage contracts key dates to meet established project milestones, and complete the commissioning ensuring safety of personnel and company assets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Construction Site Manager in all aspects involving site activities.
  • Mobilize and manage the internal and external teams involved in the commissioning activities of the mechanical & instrumentation systems.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities are performed safely and efficiently in accordance with the project management system.
  • Assist with and participate in all aspects of Site Safety oversight, meetings, walk-downs, etc.
  • Provide support in claim management and documentation, including variation management, reporting and contract entitlements.
  • Effectively apply methodology and enforce project standards.
  • Monitor, control and minimize risks on the project.
  • Ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
  • Collaborate with, and work alongside Contractor in all areas of mechanical works for the project.
  • Ensure timely and accurate invoicing and monitor receivables for project.
  • Attend regular status meetings with project team.
  • Effectively communicate relevant project information to superiors.
  • Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
  • Monitor and inspect mechanical works commissioning activities of the Contractor regarding progress, compliance with the Contract and applicable codes/standards, quality, safety, and environmental acceptance.
  • Review, provide input and approve Contractors’ commissioning work method statements.
  • Review, provide input to the Contractors’ commissioning schedules, sequence, and procedures.
  • Review construction turnover packages to ensure complete documentation prior to walk down(s).
  • Conduct construction to commissioning walk-downs and develop punch lists, ensuring completion for commissioning turnover.
  • Review, provide input and approve mechanical works submitted by the Contractor, to equipment installation.
  • Provide correspondence input for instructions to ensure strict adherence to general and project requirements.
  • Oversight of Technical Field Advisors (TFA) works and commissioning procedures.
  • Identify/anticipate and mitigate of deficiencies and development of solution to problems encountered during commissioning.
  • Manage commissioning interfaces with engineering, construction, testing, and contractors.
Job Requirements:
  • Demonstrated successful performance as a Mechanical Commissioning Lead on multiple projects of similar design.
  • Demonstrated successful performance as part of EPC Team on multiple projects of similar design.
  • Knowledge of construction pricing, scheduling and execution processes.
  • Engineering/Construction exposure in multiple disciplines.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with installation as related to Major Equipment (boiler/heat recovery steam generator, combustion gas turbine, condensing steam turbines, chillers, cooling towers, underground distribution piping systems).
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with installation means/methods for all mechanical installations.
  • Very knowledgeable of Construction Safety practices, processes, leading and lagging indicators.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbally.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently sit, stand, or walk for a minimum of 8-hour shifts, including walking long distances and on uneven ground
  • Frequently climb stairs and ladders, balance and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and maneuver in awkward positions
  • Frequently lift objects of up to 25 pounds in weight and carry objects of up to 25 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to push or pull objects of up to 25 pounds in weight.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate & hear, have full use of hands & finger, be able to handle & feel, and be able to reach with hands and arms extensively.
  • Vision requirements for this position include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
Education / Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent degree or experience in lieu of degree
  • 10 years’ of site experience in power and/or utility stations.
  • 7 years of experience for power projects including construction and commissioning.
  • 5 years of project experience for projects in excess of $150mUSD
