How You Will Contribute:

We are seeking an HR professional with strong communication skills and initiative to serve as our Labor and Employee Relations Specialist. The Labor and Employee Relations Specialist advises managers and staff on a broad range of labor and employee relations matters including policies and procedures, discipline, performance, and grievances under supervision of the Labor and Employee Relations Manager.

Specifically, you will:

  • Address problems by applying relevant policies and contract language to resolution, including escalation, as needed.
  • Provide consultation, guidance and coaching to supervisors on a variety of issues including performance management and disciplinary action.
  • Refer questions and concerns regarding FMLA, ADA, and benefits to the Benefits Associate and assist in coordination, as needed.
  • Coordinate the grievance process at Step 1 to ensure compliance and timeliness with the collective bargaining agreement including gathering necessary documentation and facilitating communication among parties.
  • Provide support in labor matters, as needed, including preparing data, reports, and documentation for later steps of the grievance process and contract negotiations.
  • Conduct investigations on matters that are raised internally including monitoring the anonymous hotline and make recommendations, as appropriate.
  • Assist the HR Team in the development and implementation of employment policies and procedures such as the employee handbook, recruitment, onboarding, training, and the exit interview process.
  • Suggest updates to improve employee engagement and experience.
  • Ensure files and records are maintained in shared drives and HRIS.
  • Participate in internal committees, as needed.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

Your background and experience include:

  • 2-4 years of professional experience in human resources
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or labor/industrial relations or a related field preferred or equivalent work experience
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations preferred
  • Experience working in a union environment preferred
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and management-labor regulations including EEO, FLSA, FMLA, ADA

Position and Compensation Details

  • The salary range for this position is $60,000-63,000.
  • This position is full-time, exempt, and 35 hours per week.
  • This position reports to the Labor and Employee Relations Manager
  • Physical requirements:
  • Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
  • Ability to move items up to 10 pounds.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required.
  • Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job.
