Compounding Technician Duties

• Prepare compounds in accordance to USP standards, including chapters 795 and 797
• Non-Sterile compounding in accordance to USP chapter 795
• Pulling/putting away manufactured medications and chemicals
• Counting/pouring/mixing/weighing/affixing labels/taping
• Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as according to current SOPs and hazardous drug control plan (HDCP)
• Proper operation and maintenance of all compounding equipment (mortar and pestles (manual and electronic), capsule machine, ointment mill, and biosafety (class 1) cabinets
• Maintenance of logs: freezer, balance calibrations, sterile hood, humidity, filter logs, environmental monitoring logs, and temperature logs
• Glassware and equipment washing and proper waste removal (reduces fine particulate exposure) according to current SOPs and HDCP

• Sterile-Compounding in accordance to USP chapter 797
• Proper operation of Simplifi797 (quality monitoring software)
• Maintenance of logs: freezer, balance calibrations, sterile hood, humidity, filter logs, environmental monitoring logs, and temperature logs

• Possible operation and maintenance of compounding aseptic isolators (CAIs), laminar airflow workstation (LAFW), and biosafety (class 2) cabinets

• Proficient operation of PK Compounding software
• Labeling/bar-coding inventory according to current SOPs for PK software

• Proper general lab maintenance and cleanup per SOPs

Technician Standard Duties

• Expedites prescription processing by performing all duties necessary and allowable, by Standard of Practice or law
• Receives new and refilled prescriptions from customers and/or prescribers for filling
• Verifies name, DOB, and address (if applicable) of the person the new prescription is to be filled for, as well as, legibility of the prescriber’s name
• Obtains from the prescription files those prescriptions, which have been requested to be refilled
• Prepares and types labels for new/refill prescriptions
• Process cash register transactions
• Opens and closes the cash register at the beginning and end of the day
• Packages prescriptions appropriately for mail and/or delivery as necessary
• Arranges customer consultations with Pharmacist
• Procures signatures from customers for all prescriptions received
• Handles non-professional phone calls to/from:
• Patients requesting prescription refills
• Provider’s office requesting refill authorization or patient demographic information
• Public concerning price information
• Public concerning business hours or types of services offered
• Patients regarding quantity of refills available
• Vendors regarding ordering drugs and supplies
• Handles all calls with excellent customer services skills, directs to Pharmacist, when appropriate, such as new prescriptions, questions about medication and any other situation requiring professional judgment or discretion.

• Returns phone calls promptly and contacts patients as required on insurance issues
• Completes and processes third-party documents.
• Completes Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) reporting
• Completes Pharmacy Quality Commitment (PQC) reporting
• Complies with all aspects (including receiving, storage, dispensing/compounding, disposal) of Hazardous Drug Control Plan (HDCP).
• Files patient profiles and prescriptions as necessary
• Ensures pharmacy is adequately stocked with vials, labels and other pharmacy supplies to ensure efficient daily operation.
• Processes incoming orders to determine that items ordered were shipped and that items shipped are the same as items invoiced to the Pharmacy
• Checks items for appropriate Expiration or Beyond Use Date (BUD)
• Places incoming drugs on stock shelves or in the refrigerator, when required
• Checks stock to remove outdated items, as often as deemed necessary by the PIC
• Cleans pharmacy shelves and work areas and maintains entire premises according to current SOPs
• Other duties as assigned

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
• No nights

Experience:

• Pharmacy technician: 1 year (Required)

License/Certification:

• PTCB Certification (Required)
