Position Summary

This job is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining.

The Field Engineering Technician inspects and evaluates various maintenance and construction documentation for quality and compliance with PG&E’s requirements. The FET must be able to interpret documentation which is evidence of compliance with company work procedures. The FET prepares, conducts, and documents quality assessments in accordance with established quality review processes. The FET monitors quality, identifies issues, reports findings and may recommend process improvements.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $42.82 to $60.31. Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the starting hourly rate for this position is $42.82, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.

This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.

May vary from 20% - 50% office to office travel, with minimum overnight travel.

Job Responsibilities

• Prepares and corrects field drawings.
• Verifies schedule and cost-input information, and utilizes the computer to edit schedule and cost information under the supervision of an employee in a higher classification.
• Performs schedule and cost data indexing and coding activities under the supervision of an employee in a higher classification.
• Assists in planning, scheduling and cost-control activities, such as operation and maintenance of scheduling, cost-control and reporting systems under the supervision of an employee in a higher classification.
• DOT-Operations/Maintenance AND Emergency
• Locates and marks underground facilities, layout of foundation and excavation sites.
• Initiates right-of-way acquisitions, licenses, and permits.
• Orders and receives material.
• Assists Senior Field Engineering Technicians and Field Engineers.
• Prepares construction notes.
• Performs technical work associated with construction activities such as cost estimating, simple drafting, and field measurements.
• Maintains schedule and cost control files.
• Checks and corrects completed schedule and cost reports and prepares and distributes reports as necessary under the supervision of an employee in a higher classification.

Qualifications

Minimum:

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
• Experience and supplemental education, job-related
• Must have a valid California Driver's License

Desired:

• Experience in field work
• Ability to demonstrate basic to intermediate Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and Office skills
• Ability to demonstrate strong math and computer skills, strong written and verbal communication, and an attention to detail
•  Additional consideration may be given to candidates who reside within 50 miles of the headquarters
