Job Summary:
Shift Managers will be responsible for the operation of all process plants across the site for their shift. These duties include oversight of all safety and production aspects of their shift.
Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing the entire production process across the site and maintaining proper process conditions throughout the site.
  • Ensuring their crew maintains a clean, safe work environment with sound, consistent housekeeping practices.
  • Assigning and logging operator performed maintenance.
  • Collecting and entering data on a daily and weekly basis for inventory.
  • Ensuring all safety incidents are entered into the RC Dashboard and initiating the root cause analysis.
  • Review lab results daily and make changes to various processes to maintain quality.
  • Communicating with team members and all other relevant parties with updates about plant speed, unplanned shutdowns, and safety information.
  • Maintaining the shift log.
  • Ensuring all associates on their shift attend all relevant safety meetings, training sessions and drills, toolbox talks, PPS meetings and daily production meetings. 
  • Ensuring all associates complete monthly take care observations, required CILs and/or sweep sheets, and safety equipment checklists.
  • Scheduling call-off coverage as well as shift coverage.
  • Maintaining the OEE tool includes logging various process interruptions and production losses.
  • Completing various reports, including the IDR log, ion-exchanger log, scrubber readings, FA plant readings, etc.
  • Issuing all work permits (safe work permits, hot work, etc.).
  • Confirming payroll on a weekly basis through the Paycor System.
  • Administering annual and mid-year performance reviews for their entire crew. This includes formulating and implementing a Perstorp Improvement Plan for under-performing employees.
  • Conducting pre-startup safety reviews for new or re-commissioned equipment.
  • Investigating the causes of non-conforming material.
  • Coordinating with the Maintenance Gatekeeper in scheduling, prioritizing, and allocating resources for scheduled maintenance. Also, able to react to unplanned breakdowns by coordinating with maintenance to determine which jobs are a priority, and determine resources needed.
  • Ensuring operator rounds are being documented and communicated.
  • Ensuring weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual PMs are being performed on a timely basis.
  • Scheduling planned process interruptions, including heat-up of vessels and coordinating specific maintenance that can be done at that time.
  • Maintaining shift continuity, including ensuring shifts are rotating personnel between board and field responsibilities.
  • Logging the levels of critical production materials including cloth filter belts, other filters, screens, antifoam, etc.
  • Act as a leader for the operations team to assure conformance with the EHSQ policy and all site safety rules.
  • Conduct annual employee performance reviews.
  • Responsible to achieve Shift Manager objectives agreed annually.
  • Support and actively participate in the site’s development along the Perstorp careway.
  • Lead by example within the area of responsible care.
  • Comply with the responsible care minimum requirements.
  • Ensure conformance and follow all company policies & procedures and all site health, safety, security, and environmental rules.
  • Actively participate in EHSQ programs (i.e., take care observations, safety training, toolbox talks, incident reporting & investigation and safety walks).
  • Coach others on their team to participate in Health and safety programs and projects.
  • Perform/support other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management and support other employees as necessary in a team effort.
  • Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience (>3 years) in a supervisory position preferred.
  • Experience (>5 years) manufacturing position in a chemical plant or refinery preferred.
  • Experience in the operations of Trimethylolpropane, Pentaerythritol, Formaldehyde and Powerhouse.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • SAP knowledge preferred.
  • Experience with Paycor HRIS beneficial.
  • Strong knowledge of batch and continuous chemical manufacturing.
  • Process Safety experience (PHA, LOPA, Safety Instrumented Systems) preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents including PFD’s and P&ID’s.
  • Working knowledge of field operations.

Work Environment:
  • Routinely exposed to manufacturing environment including all weather elements including extreme climate changes, dirt, dust, vibrations, odor/unpleasant smells, loud noises, and chemicals.
  • Routinely uses office equipment such as computers, phones, scanners, and other typical office equipment. Requires use of electronic mail and ERP systems.
  • Routinely in contact with others (face to face, by telephone, computer or otherwise).
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform in an active office environment, including the ability to complete paperwork, work on a computer, handle filing and office equipment and change activities frequently.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Maintain a stationary position (sit, stand) and walk, move, climb, bend, stoop, kneel or crouch, climb or balance, use of hands to finger, and reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time.
  • Mobility is required to access all areas on-site and navigate/operate in close quarters, small rooms, narrow aisles, and passageways.
  • Operation of a forklift, man-lift, tractors, and other specialized pieces of equipment as required.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Ability to use all channels of communication (i.e., read/write/speak/hear).
  • Vision sufficient to perform above-described tasks with or without correction.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds at times repetitively.
  • Comply and pass site regulations for PPE and clearances (i.e., annual physical, Respirator Fit Test, FRC clothing, etc.).
Schedule:
  • 12-hour rotating shifts which will include weekends and holidays. (36-48 hours per week).
  • May require off-hours availability during annual turnarounds and large Capex projects on site as well as covering shifts for other Shift Managers depending on business/site needs.
