Perstorp Polyols is Hiring a Material Handler - Raw Near Toledo, OH

We have an open position for a Material Handler - Raw

The Raw Material Handler primary objective is to handle incoming bulk raw material and outgoing bulk products.
Responsibilities:
  • Operate equipment in the raw material area in accordance with work instructions with minimum supervision. Troubleshooting process disturbance per supervision direction.
  • Arrange daily rail switches with the railroad. Assist in placing railcars on unloading/loading spots.
  • Complete daily rounds and inspections of equipment and property in the raw material area.
  • Complete operating forms (such as truck and tank car loading, tank car unloading inspection).
  • Unload of raw materials such as Acetaldehyde, Caustic, Butyraldehyde, Formic Acid and Methanol. Unloading of other incoming materials as required. Loading and unloading of finished product.
  • Load waste methanol trucks.
  • Enter unloaded railcars into SAP system for inventory control.
  • Lock out tag out of pumps, valves, and related equipment to provide safe layup as preparation for necessary maintenance repairs.
  • Complete operating forms such as truck and tank car unloading inspection checklists according to established safe practices and written instructions.
  • Sample containment areas and keep them pumped out and clean according to permit guidelines. This includes leaves and/or other debris.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and/or Perstorp maintenance on repairs, tank inspections, etc.
  • Monitor tank levels, keep in contact with Shift Managers and Operations Superintendent on scheduled unloads when levels become low. Make contact on Friday afternoon to discuss any weekend unloads.
  • Continuous labelling of the process. Replace any worn labels on lines, tanks, ground, etc.
  • Safely operate the shuttle wagon, rail-car mover, forklift, man-lift, tractors, and other specialized pieces of equipment as required.
    • Immediately report to supervision, any derailing of cars, car mover, damaged equipment, any environmental release or spill to the air, ground, city sanitary sewer, or body of water such as rivers or streams that may have been affected, as well as any malfunctions of plant pollution control.
    • Maintain tools, personal protective equipment, in proper safe working condition.
    • Security in the area by keeping the gates closed unless movement of railcars takes place and to report unauthorized trespassing of individuals in the rail lead area.
    • Property maintenance within raw material area (grass cutting, snow & ice removal, salting of walkways in the work areas).
    • Maintain proper equipment identification and line labelling in the Raw material area.
    • Do the monthly PM’s in the raw material area when notification is generated in SAP and the proper follow-up procedure.
    • Make adjustments to process equipment as necessary to maintain process targets with established instructions and practices and document actions.
    • Perform inspection and data entry on raw material receiving. 
    • Generation of proper shipping documents pertaining to the product shipped.
    • Detect and report process disturbances, remedy disturbances with established instructions and practices and document actions.
    • Inspection of equipment, hoses, tanks, railroad tracks and maintain switches and inform the supervisor about any and all defects. Ensuring all caps and plugs are on piping.
    • Daily monitor of VOCs in raw material and proper reporting of.
    • Communications with CSXT about incoming and outgoing railcars, placement, and removal.
    • Maintain neat and orderly work area and communicate pertinent information to the supervisor.
  • Provide assistance including maintenance work in FA during shutdowns.
  • Review and update work instructions and procedures.
  • Responsible to achieve Material Handler Raw objectives agreed annually.
  • Support and actively participate in the site’s development along the Perstorp careway.
  • Lead by example within the area of responsible care.
  • Comply with the responsible care minimum requirements.
  • Ensure conformance and follow all company policies & procedures and all site health, safety, security, and environmental rules.
  • Actively participate in EHSQ programs (i.e., take care observations, safety training, toolbox talks, incident reporting & investigation and safety walks).
  • Perform/support other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management and support other employees as necessary in a team effort.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Experience (>3 years) in a chemical plant, refinery, power plant or like industry; or military equivalent preferred.
  • Trained in OSHA Hazards Communication.
  • Trained in DOT regulations.
  • Operation of a railcar mover, forklift, man-lift, tractors, and other specialized pieces of equipment required.
  • Ability to read process flowsheets as part of running equipment and troubleshooting process disturbances.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to include installing threaded fittings, disassembling, and reassembling basic equipment, rebuilding valves.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and basic typing skills for interfacing with process computer and ERP system (SAP) preferred.
Competencies:
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and through written text.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple/changing priorities.
Work Environment:
  • Routinely exposed to manufacturing environment including all weather elements including extreme climate changes, dirt, dust, vibrations, odor/unpleasant smells, loud noises, and chemicals.
  • Occasionally uses office equipment such as computers, phones, scanners, and other typical office equipment. Requires use of electronic mail and ERP systems.
  • Routinely in contact with others (face to face, by telephone, computer or otherwise).
Physical Requirements:
  • Maintain a stationary position (sit, stand) and walk, move, climb, bend, stoop, kneel or crouch, climb or balance, use of hands to finger, and reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time.
  • Mobility required to access all areas on-site and navigate/operate in close quarters, small rooms, narrow aisles, and passageways.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Ability to use all channels of communication (i.e., read/write/speak/hear).
  • Vision sufficient to perform above-described tasks with or without correction.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds at times repetitively.
  • Comply and pass site regulations for PPE and clearances (i.e.: annual physical, Respirator Fit Test, FRC clothing, etc.).
