Director of Field Operations
Mobile, AL
Summary
We are searching for a Director of Field Operations to lead the daily field operations for our Construction Group. This position will manage a team of Superintendents and other field personnel working on various job sites across the southeast. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader in commercial construction field operations who will uphold the company core values while ensuring project safety, performance and profitability.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for general oversite of field related work.
- Ensure General Superintendents and Superintendents are coordinating and managing all construction activities according to the set construction schedule and all phases are completed on time.
- Assist Superintendents with jobsite setup, including procurement of job trailers, portable toilets, dumpsters, and other items needed.
- Maintain open communication between field and office personnel to keep projects moving forward with minimal issues.
- Review subcontractor scopes with Project Management (PM) prior to issuance to ensure completeness.
- Work closely with Superintendents to solve scheduling conflicts, means and methods conflicts and subcontractor related issues.
- Monitor jobsites to ensure all personnel are maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols and following procedures for reporting requirements.
- Conduct quality assessments on each jobsite to ensure Superintendents and all trade partners are performing work according to set quality standards.
- Communicate and collaborate with Business Development, Project Management, & Estimating during Pre-construction efforts to plan resource and personnel needs.
- Develop and enhance subcontractor and vendor relations.
- Assist senior management with improving processes and procedures accordingly.
- Tactfully and promptly relay major field issues to project management.
Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with direct reports, subcontractors, clients and senior management.
- Honesty and Integrity must be at the forefront of all interactions with others.
- Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions, trade practices.
- Must have conceptual ability to work with minimum information and quickly develop an understanding of the owner/architect requirements.
- Should demonstrate imaginative, innovative, and succinct approach to projects.
- Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications - Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project; familiarity with construction project management software is a plus, but not required.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Required: 10 years experience as a project manager or field supervisor/superintendent.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Building Construction/Science or similar field is preferred.
