PenLink is looking for an IT Systems Administrator to provide technical support and system administration services to the New York Police Department (NYPD) in support of PenLink software and systems. As an IT Systems Administrator specializing in Law Enforcement Technology, you will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing physical computer equipment, networking devices, and software systems. Your day-to-day tasks will involve active health monitoring, system optimizations, and troubleshooting to ensure the seamless operation of critical law enforcement technologies. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of various networking components, security standards, and PenLink software.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Hardware Maintenance:

• Maintain and troubleshoot workstations, input devices, server components, power supplies, network firewalls, switches, etc
• Reconfigure networking devices, including punch panels, wall jacks, and crimping Cat-6 cables
• Oversee remote site servers, workstation, and other equipment installed in remote offices

Software and Database Management:

• Perform routine updates to software and firmware
• Configure and administer standalone and Microsoft Exchange email servers
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve reported issues with the PenLink software
• Oversee application related databases (Oracle, NetApp experience preferred)
• Assist with evidentiary production using Rimage Evidence Disc Systems (EDS) to export digital evidence to standardized media.

Networking and Security:

• Set up and maintain site-to-site VPN connections (Cisco, SonicWall experience preferred)
• Manage Active Directory, encompassing user and group management, domain policies and authentication
• Awareness and implementation of latest security standards and best practices

Training and Communication:

• Maintain effective communication with phone carriers and third-party services
• Document issues and associated support activities in the PenLink CRM system (Salesforce) in a timely and thorough manner
• Serve as a technical liaison between agency personnel and PenLink personnel as needed
• Satisfy and maintain agency and facility requirements as required
• Generate monthly reports of services rendered and deliverables provided
• Participate in regular program calls between the PenLink team and agency
• Onboard and train agency personnel new to PenLink software

YOUR COMPETENCIES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• College degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent work experience
• Experience in law enforcement technology or related field is highly desirable
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with various stakeholders
• Critical thinking and strong analytical skills to assist in troubleshooting processes
• Detail-oriented documentation skills for maintaining accurate records of configurations, changes, and troubleshooting steps
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience using and administering an enterprise-level IT system
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience of service desk work
• Working knowledge of Windows OS, Active Directory, enterprise hardware (servers, workstations), virtualization, and networking (switch, VPN, firewall)
• Understanding of Microsoft Exchange Server, email protocols (SMTP, POP3, IMAP), and mailbox management
• Basic coding knowledge and experience with SQL, C#, .NET
• Knowledge of telecommunications and CALEA standards, including 4G, 5G, CDMA, Wi-Fi, VOIP, LTE, ETSI, T1.678, J-STD, TPTK, FTP
• US Citizen
• Due to the urgent and exigent nature of the position there may be times where after-hours work is required, such as scheduled maintenance windows or unplanned outage
