SUMMARY

Medical Assistants help patients by providing information, services, and assistance. Other duties include securing medical records; maintaining medical supplies inventory; performing preventive maintenance to keep equipment operating.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Prepare patient for exam and obtain medical history
• Carry out tests and immunization on patients in line with the provider’s instructions
• Performs routine screenings and routing lab tests such as urine dips, strep screens, flu tests, etc
• Obtain health history from patients
• Prepare treatment rooms for doctors for them to be able to attend to patients in a conducive environment
• Facilitate patients’ checking in and out of the clinic
  • Records patient information such as vital signs and changes in medication history
• Administer medications as directed by the provider
• Clean exam rooms after patient visits
• Follow OSHA standards and HIPAA regulations

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing;
• Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA rules and regulations;
• Knowledge of inventory control;
• Knowledge of medical terminology;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials;
• Word processing, data entry, telephone and computer experience;
• Ability to work in a diverse environment and be sensitive to issues of diversity and inclusion.

REQUIRED HOURS

Available for shifts Monday through Friday from 7:45am-7pm and weekend rotations in all four PIB offices.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• HS Diploma or GED
• Degree in Medical Assisting or three (3) years of experience as a Medical Assistant
• Compassion for children
• Must be dependable and take initiative
• Patience: Dealing with children requires a lot of patience in getting them to do what is expected as they can be reluctant sometimes to follow instructions. Therefore, you will need to be able to persuade them in a gentle manner to work effectively with them
• Must have a high level of professionalism
• Must be willing to travel locally
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must have knowledge of basic medical terminology

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
