About Us

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is an independent nonprofit organization authorized by Congress in 2010. Its mission is to fund research that will provide patients, their caregivers and clinicians with the evidence-based information needed to make better-informed healthcare decisions. PCORI is committed to continually seeking input from a broad range of stakeholders to guide its work.

Position Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for providing project management and operational support for a wide variety of key initiatives and activities for the Division of Finance & Administration (F&A) to advance F&A's, Department of Operations, and PCORI's strategic vision and goals.

The Project Manager will collaborate with staff in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Procurement Services, Director of Financial Operations, and the Director of Workplace Solutions and Meeting Management, their teams, and other stakeholders to plan, coordinate, manage and drive strategic initiatives and projects. Main responsibilities include management of monthly metrics, maintenance and enhancement of the F&A website, and supporting F&A business operations and monitoring efforts (e.g., progress on strategic goals, visuals, presentations, dashboards, etc.).

The incumbent should be a self-starter and possess technical proficiency working with a variety of tools. In addition, they should have superior written and verbal communication skills, strong analytic and organizational capacities, professional judgment, and a results-oriented, collaborative, and resourceful approach to their work.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Management

*Provides comprehensive meeting and project management support for multi-faceted strategic activities, workgroups, and special projects. May include:

oEstablishing a standardized project template for consistency and efficiency across F&A projects

oDeveloping and maintaining project tracking tools, monitoring progress of project against key milestones to ensure timely delivery of work products and providing key progress updates throughout the timeline to stakeholders.

oIdentifying areas of improvement or opportunities and working collaboratively with key stakeholders to propose solutions

oCreating agendas, slides, or other visual documents; staffing meetings, capturing notes, and tracking action items

oMaintaining and sharing accurate project files (e.g., centralized resources, templates, etc.) and internal documentation

oEnsuring relevant parties remain knowledgeable of project direction and progress made, including by identifying key issues, problems, approaches, timelines, and resources required. May also include creating, updating, and distributing reports.

oServing as a liaison to teams across PCORI to ensure effective and efficient information transfer on activities

Planning & Evaluation

*Participates in long and short-term program or project development, planning, implementation, and coordination of activities, particularly for new or special projects

*Assists the Office of the CFO and F&A Business Units as needed with business unit and departmental-wide planning efforts, evaluating implications to teams, resources or budgets, and monitoring communications or rollout strategies to execute new Initiatives

*Performs research and analyses for special projects (e.g., compiling and consolidating information from similar organizations to inform Operations-related activities)

*Participates in the development of key performance indicators and metrics to drive informed decision-making.

*Participate in initiatives to optimize and streamline business processes.

Communication and Collaboration

*Collaborates and works with all PCORI departments, including serving as a central point of contact across PCORI staff for questions related to F&A and key projects.

*Support and facilitate training sessions and on-going support to F&A for continuous learning and development.

*Supports cross-departmental communications and reporting efforts, such as newsletters, presentations, briefings to the leadership team, and stakeholder outreach

*Participates in annual efforts to review, update, and implement PCORI policies/processes/guidelines or programs for Operations

Required Skills

*Strong project management skills, including superb organizational skills. Keen attention to detail

*Excellent editing, oral and written communications skills. Communicates, both written and orally, on complex issues relating to projects to internal and external teams

Required Experience

*A minimum of a bachelor's degree or a combination of education and requisite experience. At least 5 years of project management and/or analytical experience.

*Advanced experience in MS Office Suite, especially Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. Proficient project management and dashboard tools

*Understanding a common framework and best practices for project management professionals such as PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge).

*Knowledge or background in nonprofit administration, finance, or operations a plus.

*Experience handling and managing multiple projects and priorities effectively, including superior time management and organization.

*Experience working with and/or communicating with diverse organizations and individuals, with professional experience with specific stakeholder groups or in research contexts strongly preferred.
