parr is Hiring a Dispatcher Near Portland, OR

Job title: Dispatcher

Pay: Starting at $22 - $26 an hour, depending on experience.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7am to 3:30pm

Location: Portland, Oregon - Located off of SE Stark St

The dispatcher is responsible for scheduling deliveries and credit returns efficiently. This position works with sales, yard personnel, and customers to make this happen. Examples include communicating with sales about their delivery needs, providing yard personnel with delivery invoices, and assisting drivers with challenges that appear on their routes. The dispatcher's efforts to coordinate between sales and yard personnel helps support our mission of Legendary Service through Teamwork.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to speak, write, and read English required
  • OSHA Certified Forklift License
  • 2 years previous lumberyard experience
  • 1 year dispatching experience
  • Must be able to operate personal computer, smartphone, scanner, and any other equipment necessary for the job
  • Must be able to type 30 WPM
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Class C driver's license or reliable alternative transportation required
  • Knowledge of dispatching and fleet management principles, practices and protocols
  • Knowledge of dimension lumber and panel products and other building materials
  • Knowledge of home and commercial construction principles, practices and protocols
  • Ability to read and interpret maps

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Efficiently schedule delivery orders and credit returns
  • Comes to work professionally groomed and attired
  • Maintains yard cleanliness and holds team accountable for such behavior
  • Introduces himself/herself to customers and/or venders when opportunity arises
  • Ensures that credit returns are picked up in a timely manner
  • Schedules backorders to make sure they are handled as a top priority
  • Conducts regular ride-a-longs with drivers and job shadowing in yard
  • Acknowledges team member's great work
  • Proactively seeking to improve damage and cull figures
  • Holds team accountable for assets for proper usage, lost and cleanliness
  • Seeks out tasks or training opportunities that may help in career advancement
  • Reviews productivity reports and identifies opportunities for improvement
  • Completes required Blue-Volt training in a timely manner
  • Remain current on changing Federal and State laws in regards to interstate commerce and the operation of commercial motor vehicles
  • Efficiently schedules delivery orders and returns in DDMS
  • Understands weight, height, and length limits for DOT compliance
  • Uses resources to seek information, partners with others in the company to solve problems
  • Opens and closes yard as needed
  • Assists drivers with job site and road challenges
  • Schedules loads in an effort to maximize OTIF
  • Assists with yearly inventory
  • Effectively manages Outlook and personal notebook
  • Holds people accountable for maintaining schedule
  • Communicates when overlength and overweight permits are needed
  • Ensures all paperwork, licensing, permits insurance certificate and truck books are orderly and kept up to date
  • Works to improve truck turn time in the yard, can point to improvements team has made
  • Effectively knows how to manage truck journey value
  • Understands how efficiently order blocks, hangers and other supplies we use
  • Facilitates group discussions with key members for best practices
  • Seeks out product transactions and order history
  • Uses interyard transfer system
  • Prepares and submits monthly fuel and mileage reports
  • Involved in management team's efforts to reduce turnover
  • Assists Fleet Manager in maintaining a safe, efficient and well-kept fleet
  • Assists Driver Trainer in maintaining a safe, efficient well-trained staff of drivers
  • Completes falcon order entry as needed
  • Wears high visibility/proper uniform
  • Reviews daily equipment inspections weekly (Trucks, brakes, cranes trailers)
  • Maintains a comfortable and safe working environment for all employees
  • Proactively addresses safety issues
  • Proactively brings safety issues to the attention of proper department
  • Follows all company safety protocols
  • Arrives on time and prepared to work
  • Adheres to company policies
  • Seeks and prioritizes cross training
  • Flexibility to work for extended hours as needed
  • Promotes Face Value Award program
  • Assists other team members with their work when appropriate
  • Helps set goals and meets company deadlines for the team

This position works in an office with a computer in a lumberyard/warehouse environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work indoors in a normal office environment for an entire day
  • Must be able to grasp, talk, hear, and operate a computer and keyboard
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds and carry objects 50 feet
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to drive a vehicle when necessary
  • Both local and overnight travel may be required
