POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Food Service Director, is the second highest level position in the Food Services Department. He/she reports to the Food Service Director and assists the Director inplanning and supervising activities of the department to provide service to residents, employees and visitors. The Assistant Food Service Director assists in providing technical guidance and administrative direction over food planning, menu formulation and serving of regular and therapeutic diets.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1Ensures responsibility for the quality and quantity of food served;
2Adheres to all sanitary regulations governing handling and serving of food;
3Oversees that meals are prepared and served on schedule;
4Investigates trends and developments in dietary, practices and techniques, and evaluates their adaptability to dietary programs;
5Develops, revises, and adapts work techniques and methods for more efficient operation of unit and for training employees;
6Prepares and serves food in accordance with national standards and administrative policies within budget allowances;
7Maintains accurate records and reports;
8Offers assistance and input to Food Service Director during both the performance appraisal and disciplinary process for dietary staff;
9Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights;
10Performs other duties as requested.
NOTE:These duties become the responsibility of the assistant in the absence of the Food Services Director.
JOB SKILLS:
1Knowledge of basic principles of dietetic, food sanitation and service.
2Familiar with large-scale purchases and preparation of food, food and labor laws, and with accepted food service techniques.
3Possess the ability to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
4Basic computer skills.
5Provide annual verification of negative TB skin test.
Food Service Certification in accordance with regulatory agencies is required.Associate degree in Food Service preferred.
