PA MAJOR BRIDGES is Hiring a Junior Accountant / Accounts Payable - PA Major Bridges Project Near Philadelphia, PA

POSITION SUMMARY

The Junior Accountant – AP Specialist’s primary responsibilities will focus on accounts payable – managing, processing and, in general, owning this process. The Junior Accountant – AP Specialist will also assist in the completion of various clerical duties within the month-end close and financial reporting process. This position requires an individual who is highly organized with a demonstrated attention to detail and possesses experience with computerized accounting systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ACCOUNTS PAYABLE

  • Initiate requests for new vendor/subcontractor entry into the accounting system.
  • Entry of all invoices/payment requests into an automated workflow process.
  • Verifying vendor accounts, paying vendors, and resolving purchase orders, invoices, or payment discrepancies.
  • Charging expenses to accounts and cost centers and control expenses.
  • Reconciling account transactions with the general ledger
  • Compiling, analyzing, and preparing accurate financial reports
  • Keeping informed of regulatory requirements and best practices in accounting
  • Assisting senior accountant and controller in the decision-making process by preparing budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Independently track and secure proper approvals prior to timely invoice payment.
  • Provide a list of proposed weekly payments.
  • Process payments, both prescheduled and immediate, as required.

ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL REPORTING

  • Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded.
  • Update accounts receivable and issue invoices.
  • Update accounts payable and perform reconciliations.
  • Assist in the processing of balance sheets, income statements and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines.
  • Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc., as assigned.
  • Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed.
  • Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports.
  • Assist senior accountant in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings.
  • Collect information needed to prepare sales and use tax filings, government surveys and reporting, and other statutory obligations.
  • Assist with special projects on an as-needed basis.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's or similar degree in accounting, finance, or related.
  • At least 2 years’ experience as an account payable specialist, or similar.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounts payable principles, accounting standards, and industry regulations.
  • Extensive experience in account reconciliation.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and computer skills. Experience with Vista is a plus.
  • Understanding of mathematics accounting and financial processes.
  • Ethical behavior.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Great time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication abilities.
  • Confidence and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability/flexibility to work with a diversified workforce in multiple locations.
  • Available to travel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods.
  • May require driving occasionally for up to 2-5 hours.
  • Minimum physical exertion such as walking, lifting, standing for long periods, bending, or reaching may be required.
  • Requires visual ability to perform tasks: preparing and analyzing data, plans, outlines, viewing a computer, and extensive reading.
  • Requires the ability to physically operate standard office equipment i.e., laptop, phone, keyboard, mouse, etc.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

The Major Bridges P3 Initiative is part of the PennDOT Pathways Program, which is designed to bolster PennDOT’s ongoing effort to address the state’s growing backlog of replacement and rehabilitation needs for major bridges that are approaching the end of their useful life. By allowing for the use of a P3 delivery model, PennDOT will be able to replace or rehabilitate major bridges around the state more quickly, achieve significant savings for taxpayers, and minimize the impact on the traveling public.

The purpose of the Pennsylvania Major Bridges Project is to deliver infrastructure improvements focusing on the rehabilitation and replacement of nine major bridges (and associated roadways) across the Commonwealth. Upon completion, it is estimated to be over $2B.
