Medical Assistant
at Our Lady of Hope Clinic
Summary
In cooperation with and reporting directly to the clinic's Executive Director, the Medical Assistant (MA) organizes, monitors, and controls the patient care operations of Our Lady of Hope Clinic. The Medical Assistant position is a full-time, hourly position. Compensation ranges from $18 to $21 per hour, commensurate with training and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Care
• Oversees and maintains the flow of patient care during clinic days including supervising and assisting medical assistant volunteers
• Provides and assists in direct patient care including in-office procedures such as I&Ds, EKGs, and ultrasounds
• Performs skills such as venipuncture, injections, blood glucose monitoring, and other patient care needs as requested by the provider(s) within the scope of their experience
• Performs phone triage for incoming calls and monitors/responds to incoming messages
• Follow-up phone calls to patients as needed
• Processes orders (lab, x-ray, US, etc.) per provider.
Patient Education
• Updates and maintains patient educational material including writing specific material as requested by the provider(s) and ensures these materials are readily available for patients
• Provides direct patient education in office and via phone or encrypted email
• Assists patients with referrals to Physical Therapy, Dietitian, SCFC, local specialty clinics, pharmacies, and other ancillary services.
Clinic Operations
• Processes: lab results, medical record releases, medication refills/clarifications/orders, and prior authorizations
• Maintains the medical portion of the Policy and Procedure Manual
• Works in conjunction with the Office Manager on HIPPA compliance
• Maintains the autoclave and centrifuge
• Maintains stocking of patient rooms and lab reporting supply needs to the Executive Director
• Take labs to SSM at the end of the day
Coordination with Clinic Staff
• Works with the Development Director, Office Manager, volunteer providers, volunteer medical assistants, interpreters, and other staff as needed
Interprofessional Health Liaison
• Maintains positive working relationship with outside agencies on behalf of our patients, including but not limited to:
o St. Mary's Hospital
o PPVI Institute
o WCC
o St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy
o SCFC Clinic
Volunteer Coordination
• Controls onboarding, training, and progress of volunteer medical assistants
Assistant to Executive Director
• Assists with projects as requested by Executive Director, such as Volunteer Appreciation Dinners, Christmas Dinner, etc.
Requirements and Preferences
• Native or Functionally Native Proficiency in both Spanish and English
• Encouraged to maintain professional and technical knowledge by obtaining certification (CMA, CCMA, RMA) and attending educational workshops
• Prior patient-care experience is preferred
