Benefits to you

  • We pay 95% to 99% of medical insurance premiums for full-time employees, including mental health coverage.
  • The hourly equivalent for these positions is $23.98 - $37.20.
  • 10 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, 3 personal business days, separate sick and vacation paid leaves (prorated for part-time employees), and other employee benefits such as optional insurances and flexible spending plans.
  • OJD will pay you a 5% allowance for bilingual skills (includes ASL) if you can pass a skills test and are assigned to use those skills on the job.
  • In this job profile, we offer candidates new to OJD the first step of the salary range. You are potentially eligible for a 5% annual increase.

Position Highlights

The Hood River County Circuit Court in Hood River, Oregon, is hiring two Court Operations Associate positions. One position will serve as judicial assistant to a judge, but both positions will have duties inside and outside of the courtroom.

In the judicial assistant role, you will provide confidential administrative support for a judge. You will screen calls, visitors, and mail, maintain multiple calendars for the judge, route files to the judge and court staff, and prepare and proofread a variety of correspondence, memoranda, and legal documents. You will use our case management software to review reports related to court cases, research case information, and accept and review documents filed with the court. You will also coordinate case activities and information with judges, court staff, attorneys, litigants, agencies, and the public.

In the courtroom, you will swear in witnesses, mark and maintain exhibits, maintain accurate written records, perform real-time data entry, record court proceedings using our digital recording equipment, prepare and complete forms, process documents, and keep accurate logs. You will draw, empanel, and manage juries and serve as a liaison between jurors, the court, and attorneys. You will also create sentencing orders using the Uniform Criminal Judgment (UCJ) program. Part of your time will be spent hosting remote court sessions by telephone or via video conferencing software. Outside of the courtroom, you will perform data entry, process case documents including criminal and juvenile documents, and provide customer service by answering phone calls and providing information.

Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

AND

At least three (3) or more years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.

OR

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

  • Experience performing a variety of clerical or administrative support tasks, with strict deadlines in a busy business or professional setting.

Working Conditions

  • These are full-time positions, and the work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. These positions are eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per work week.
  • These positions may need to work irregular hours on occasion and may be required to work overtime on evenings or weekends on occasion.
  • Infrequent travel to outlying counties.
  • Frequent in-person and phone interruptions.
  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people who may be facing challenging life circumstances, highly stressful situations, or trauma.
  • Long periods of sitting or standing may be required.
  • Regular use of the following equipment: electronic recording equipment, telephone, OJD-assigned computer with multiple monitors, copy machine, fax machine, and scanner.
