Department Overview

The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) is located 12 miles west of the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases.

Function/Duties of Position

This position will coordinate and manage research projects to satisfy scientific objectives in the Burwitz Lab. Coordinates design, implementation, and evaluation of various research projects with active management of expectations, timelines, and deliverables through facilitation and coordination of steps. This coordinator will track and report milestones to the faculty and may assist in developing research, participates in professional conferences, and provide public relations support.

This position is a key piece of the outcomes for ongoing research endeavors. May provide specialized administrative support such as day-to-day administration of a broad range of programs and activities of a research center. Additionally, they may organize in service training, conferences and workshops. May provide recommendations and process/tools development to support objectives. Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Master's in relevant field AND
• 1 year of relevant experience OR
• Equivalent combination of training and experience

Additional Details

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Willingness to work on weekends and evenings as dictated by the project needs
• Willingness to work in a laboratory setting, with potential risk of exposure to chemicals and dry ice
• Willingness to work in areas where there is risk of exposure to zoonotic agents through injury, by direct contact with animals or their tissues and body fluids or by contact with equipment contaminated by animals or their tissues and body fluids
• Willingness to work where there is a risk of exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and sanitizing chemicals
• Willingness to work with pathogens potentially dangerous to humans
• Willingness to work in Biosafety Level 2 and 3 facilities
• Willingness and ability to work flexible hours

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & EQUIPMENT USAGE:

• Ability to work in a biosafty hood for long periods
• Ability to work in areas that may have slippery conditions
• Ability and willingness to work independently
• Ability to carry and lift 35 lbs.
• Ability to stand for three continuous hours a day
• Ability to work on computer for five continuous hours a day
• Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
