Orange County Government is Hiring a DSS Social Worker I - Child Welfare Division Near Lane, NC

The Orange County Department of Social Services has two openings for a Social Worker I in the Child Welfare Division. An The work involves the responsibility for providing entry-level social work as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Social Work services include conducting home visits, supervising family time between children and parents, transporting clients, and completing documentation of services provided. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher-level social worker, supervisor or program manager with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding customer needs and requests and conducting project assignments. Supervision over others is not required of this position. Position does related work as required.Hiring range is based on the Orange County Social Services Step Plan. The Step Plan is based on years of Social Worker experience. Full credit is given for years of experience performing the same job functions. Partial credit is given for years of experience performing related job functions. The top half of the scale is reserved for career employees with senior level experience in the same role. * This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required. Background Check is required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Following are examples of typical work activities and responsibilities. The incumbent may be responsible for performing other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned. A position may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned.Transports children and/or vulnerable adults from one site to another so they can obtain case-related information. Provides supervised visitation between children who are in agency custody and their parents. Identifies risk factors, conducts assessments, and makes home and school visits; identifies, develops and implements action plans that track progress toward goals. Collects information, through interviewing, testing, counseling, and using assessment instruments, about clients to evaluate and assess needs and barriers. Communicates and coordinates with other Social Workers, Social Work Supervisors, and service providers. Completes client information, forms and records; ensures case files are accurate and up to date. Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments. Adheres to the department’s safety rules and regulations.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND POSSIBLE HAZARDSAbility to physically perform (with or without reasonable accommodation) basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Ability to perform sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform transcription, and operate a computer terminal. Emotional stress due to the nature of interactions with clients or service providers. Irate clients and/or family members who may be hostile, resistant, or violent.
