By working closely with the US government and coordinating grassroots advocacy efforts, our Corporate and Government Affairs team represents United on public policy and legislative issues. And our Environmental Affairs team is equally working hard to shape an environmentally sustainable future. Key Responsibilities:

This role will support United's climate and sustainability strategy through the delivery, analysis, visualization, and communication of data. You will implement solutions that differentiate United by working in a highly collaborative setting to define and build initiatives across strategic customer engagement. You will be responsible for supporting partnership opportunities for corporate, cargo, and leisure customers to enable more sustainable flying. Support communication inclusive of reporting obligations, database creation and management, and resource development. You will focus on the duties listed below:
  • Implement our decarbonization objectives in collaboration with Corporate Sales, Cargo, united.com, and other business units to provide innovative solutions for business travel, freight forwarding, and other customer-facing initiatives that reduce GHG emissions from travel
  • Support customer and supply chain engagement as required, inclusive of customer and fuel procurement contract negotiations
  • Facilitate the continued growth of decarbonization initiative by supporting program execution, including invoicing, reporting and other functions as needed
  • Maintain repository of up-to-date and comprehensive internal and external-facing resources required to support successful program execution and customer-facing communications
  • Data Management and Process Digitization
  • Project Management and Communications Support
  • Develop and maintain reports and dashboards on sustainability metrics pertaining to customer-facing initiatives
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the data underlying United's decarbonization programs
  • Support United's Environmental Team in automating emissions queries and calculations
  • Facilitate collaboration within United's data and environmental organizations
  • Technology and Market Research
  • Support research in calculation developments from applicable external entities, including but not limited to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and International Air Transport Association, to support integration of industry standard processes
  • Provide regular updates on the latest developments in aviation sustainability, including those in technologies and commercial offerings
  • Be solution-oriented and committed to a creating and sustaining a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
  • Model integrity, possess self-awareness and foster an environment of accountability
  • Provide transparent communication to department staff, leadership, and stakeholders
  • Establish individual goals that align with United's climate ambition: net zero carbon emissions by 2050
  • Use technical knowledge and experience to provide thoughtful decision-making and guidance in strategic implementation of United's climate strategy and program

Qualifications

What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience
  • Environmental science/policy/sustainability, business, or related area
  • 3 - 5 Years of related experience
  • Understanding of Sustainability Programs
  • Data Management
  • Data Visualization
  • Project Management
  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills
  • Solid interpersonal skills and able to adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Ability to build trust and communicate
  • Ability to simultaneously manage and implement multiple projects
  • A clear interest in and passion for environmental issues
  • Demonstrates strong people, planning and organizational skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Environmental sustainability experience
  • Airline, aerospace or airport experience
  • Access Database or PowerBI experience
  • Previous administrative experience
  • Proficient data skills including PowerBI, DBeaver, Python or others
