Omni Hotels & Resorts is Hiring a Director of Catering and Convention Services Near Oklahoma, OK

Overview

Come and join our team at this 605-room convention center hotel in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City. Our luxury hotel is located next to the Paycom Center(OKC Thunder), the Oklahoma Convention Center and across the street from the 70-acre Scissortail Park.

The property includes an all-day dining outlet (Seltzer's Modern Diner), an entertainment sports bar (OKC Tap House), specialty restaurant (Bob's Steak & Chop House), coffee shop (Park Grounds) and a retail outlet (RareBird Gift Shop). Additionally, guests can enjoy a Mokara Spa, fitness center and a rooftop pool and bar (CatBird Seat) complete with a fire pit, outdoor lawn and cabanas. The hotel offers 76,000 square feet of meeting and event space inclusive of a 20,000 square foot ballroom, 10,000 square foot ballroom, and a 4,200 square foot outdoor pre-function space that overlooks the park.

Job Description

Omni Oklahoma City Hotel is seeking an experienced Director of Catering and Conference Services. This is an amazing opportunity to be a part of the team of the convention hotel in Oklahoma City. The Omni Oklahoma City Hotel is a destination for conventions, meetings, banquets, and transient business alike. Adjacent to the convention center, the hotel will be an anchor in the downtown Oklahoma City experience.

This leadership role will oversee both the Catering and Conference Services departments. Success in this position will come by ensuring a consistent product to standards, while maximizing profitability and protecting the integrity of the guest experience. This is a great opportunity for someone who has a strong background with upscale hotels and resorts. 

This role is eligible for the Director of Catering & Convention Services Incentive Plan.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the lead distribution and sales activities for all catering and event leads to ensure a high conversion ratio and maximize revenue of catering opportunities
  • Assign Definite conferences and events to team members and review and approve all turnovers from the group department.Coordinate all aspects of VIP conferences as requested by the DOSM and DOS to include but not limited to: food and beverage requirements, timing of events, audio-visual requirements, special attention to guests, room type allocation, rooming list, amenities, function room set up, group transportation, type of check in, check out to include satellite check in, special meal requests, arrival/departure manifests, bag pulls, luggage storage, complimentary rooms, billing instructions, authorized signatures, room deliveries, telephone and internet requirements, box storage and delivery, power requirements, group hospitality/office/registration desk requirements, business center requirements, key requirements, expected food and beverage outlet usage, entertainment, leisure activities, décor (to include floral) requirements.
  • Prepare resumes for groups ten days prior to group arrival and review all details in weekly Staff Meeting.
  • Oversee the adherence to the Catering and Conference Services Department’s standard operating procedures.
  • Help establish and maintain hotel’s marketplace position at the city’s most elite venue within social and corporate communities.
  • Prepares annual budget in conjunction with the DOSM and prepares forecasted revenue reports at required
  • Manages all vendor relationships to ensure that the hotel is maximizing the service experience of its clients
  • Conduct weekly one on one meetings with team, coordinate and execute performance appraisals and administer coaching and counseling when appropriate
  • Lead weekly resume and operations meeting with the hotel team to review all upcoming groups and events for the week.
  • Ensure all site inspections and client visits to the hotel are successful by team by planning carefully and communicating accurate details in advance to all departments.
  • Proactive focus on achieving consistently high Medallia scores through exceptional execution of over events.
  • Focus the team on generating high revenue yielding business for all contracted rooms, function space, and catered events.
  • Manage the the timely collection of all advance deposits for all groups/events as contracted.
  • Conduct pre- and post-conference meetings when it is agreeable with the client.
  • Ensure all current and future client accounts are serviced in accordance with hotel standards.
  • Communicate with banquet managers for all related banquet functions and communicate client requests to relevant departments.
  • Ensure banquet event orders are accurate from the catering and convention team and provide all relevant information to departments concerned ten days prior to event start time.
  • Adhere to selling policies as set forth by the Director of Sales and Marketing.
  • Remain available to hotel managers while on property.
  • Budget the departmental revenue, expenses and lead the team to maximize all revenue opportunities.
  • Participate in all regular and operational meetings as required.
  • During conference, will ensure all meeting arrangements discussed meet specifications.
  • After the conclusion of meeting, reviews final bill and comments with meeting planner.
  • Responsible for processing group commissions and rebates at the conclusion of the event.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Sales and Marketing.

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in catering sales, or conference services, in an upscale hotel or resort property and demonstrated history of leading a team.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills in all aspects: verbal, written and non-verbal
  • Must have the ability to delegate, effectively train and coach a team with diverse talents.
  • Must have proven selling, negotiating and presentation skills.
  • Must have highly developed customer service skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Delphi experience preferred.
  • Move, bend, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 40 pounds without assistance. Stand, walk or sit for an extended period or for an entire work shift. Requires repetitive motion, including utilizing telephone/computer for an extended period or for an entire shift.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
