Omaha Track is Hiring an Equipment Operator Near Superior, WI

The Operator is responsible for operating equipment to load/unload trucks, unload railroad cars, move and sort materials throughout the yard, deplate ties and sort and grade ties. Will be cross trained in several different positions in case needed.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Operate various types of heavy equipment to load/unload flatbed trucks, load product into tipper trailers and unload railcars, sort and move materials in the yard, deplate ties
  • Able to understand how to load trailers to correct axle weight according to DOT axle weight laws
  • Measure and identify ties to determine proper sizes and grade classification according to Omaha Track standards, identifying flaws or defects
  • Inspect and maintain equipment and grinding system in accordance with policies and procedures 
  • Practice proper housekeeping with clean, properly maintained tools and equipment
  • Maintain compliance with all safety requirements, policies, and procedure
  • Complete and maintain all required safety training and certifications 
  • Must be able to physically tarp and un-tarp trailers when loading them.
  • Ground work, general maintenance when needed on conveyor system

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment
  • Valid driver’s license required; must not have any major driving offenses within the last three years
  • At least 2 years of flatbed/equipment hauling experience preferred
  • Dependable and consistent attendance/punctuality
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Must work well with others on a team, while still being able to complete tasks independently.

  • Dependable and consistent attendance/punctuality
  • Ability to work outdoors in a tie grinding facility yard environment subject to all weather elements and conditions
  • Ability to drive a vehicle and operate equipment/machinery
  • Ability to safely operate equipment
  • Ability to learn the railroad industry, building knowledge of different types of ties and identifying flaws/defects
  • Ability to mount and dismount equipment freely, without assistance
  • Ability to meet all functional requirements including, but not limited to: lifting (up to 60lbs), sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, bending, squatting, finger dexterity, and reaching above/below shoulders.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with a diverse group.
  • Ability to change easily from one task to another (varying in nature) and deal with competing demands
