Omaha Track, Inc. is currently expanding in the Rocky Mountain, Central Midwest, Great Lakes and Central Southwest Regions. We are looking for dependable, motivated Knuckle Boom Operators that reside in those regions to join our growing Field Operations. Knuckle Boom Operators work with their assigned crew to pick up and transport railroad materials. We pride ourselves on being dedicated to safety, teamwork, and professionalism. Valid Class A or B CDL preferred 

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Demonstrate and promote a safe work environment within their crew and with those they work with
  • Sort railroad material using specialized heavy equipment
  • Select safe stockpile locations for transfer; load railroad ties and other track material onto trucks/into rail cars
  • Conduct hi-rail operations in accordance with railroad regulations
  • Order and coordinate the scheduling of trucks/rail cars to the job site
  • Participate in all job briefings, follow railroad protection limits, and conduct proper radio communications
  • Complete the daily activity summary and submit electronically in accordance with established deadlines
  • Practice proper housekeeping with clean, properly maintained vehicles, tools, and equipment
  • Inspect and maintain company vehicles and equipment in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Accurately complete and maintain a driver’s log in accordance with requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all safety requirements, policies, and procedures
  • Report all job site incidents and injuries to Field Manager immediately
  • Complete and maintain all required safety training and certifications

Minor Areas of Responsibility

  • Measure and cut rail into required lengths to maximize resale opportunity; maintain counts of prepped rail
  • Pick up pieces of railroad ties which are too small to handle with specialized equipment and load as directed
  • Complete fire risk assessments and use fire prevention techniques, including fire watch duties

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Class A or B CDL preferred 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Experience operating heavy mechanical equipment is required
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Demonstrated strong mechanical and intermediate mathematical skills
  • Effective listening skills, including the ability to interpret, document, and follow oral instructions
  • Must be able to pass a railroad background check to obtain and maintain the credentials to work on railroad property
