JOB SUMMARY:
The Meal Service Representative (MSR) accurately takes patient meal orders, checks each for diet compliance and advises patients on appropriate meal choices. Prints meal tickets to the food preparation and tray assembly areas and accurately and efficiently enters patient data into the electronic system. Communicates special requests from patients to dietary staff and works with the dietitians to provide diet education for patients. Customer service skills are a critical component of this position including the ability to communicate with patients and their family members in a polite, helpful and welcoming manner on the phone and in person. Assists with meal preparation serves by acting as the ‘person in charge’ in the absence of managers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
High school diploma/equivalent. Training in customer service, the hospitality industry, business, diet technician, medical office assistant and/or culinary arts preferred.
Experience
Experience in the hospitality industry (restaurant or hotel) and in the practical application of therapeutic diets in a healthcare setting preferred. Working knowledge of meal planning, preparation and kitchen operations in an institutional setting.
Licensure/Credentials
Hold and maintain a current Food Handler’s permit. ServSafe certification desirable.
