Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School is Hiring a School Psychologist SY23/24 Near Sturbridge, MA

Old Sturbridge Academy is seeking a talented clinician to serve as a School Psychologist for grades k-8. The successful candidate will possess experience working in diverse schools with English Language Learners and students with disabilities, classroom management expertise, and a passion for pioneering collaborative curriculum development set at a living history museum. The School Psychologist works as a member of the Student Support Team and directly reports to the Director of Special Education and Student Services/ Vice Principal.

As an EL Education school working in partnership with Old Sturbridge Village, Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School provides students with rigorous, real world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing environment. Through project-based learning, case studies, field work and more, Old Sturbridge Academy fosters intellectual curiosity and encourages students to become articulate communicators, critical thinkers, and skilled problem solvers who care for themselves, others around them and their communities.

About the School

Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School opened in 2017 and serves 360 students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. There are 40 students in each grade level. We are chartered K-8 and will have a maximum enrollment of 360 students. We believe in hands-on learning that focuses on three levels of student achievement: mastery of knowledge and skills, character, and high-quality work. Our school’s habits of character, which define our culture, are courage, collaboration, stewardship, perseverance, and high-quality work.

Qualifications

· Master’s degree with a major in counseling

· Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license as School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor

· Experience in an elementary/middle school setting required

Responsibilities

· Lead restorative practices for students of varying grades (elementary), abilities, and backgrounds

· Meet with students for individual and group counseling

· Maintain appropriate documentation for each student documenting their participation in individual and group counseling

· Conduct and write in-depth psycho-social clinical assessments for students; Provide recommendations that will help inform the most appropriate supports the student needs to be successful in his/her educational setting

· Provide functional behavioral assessments and assist in the development of behavioral plans as needed

· Conduct safety assessments; consult with Director of Special Education/Vice Principal in situations where safety of student is in question

· Attend and actively participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, interim placement meetings and/or other meetings; present the final assessments and/or observation and progress reports developed for each student and contribute to student IEP development through the writing and monitoring of social-emotional and behavioral goals

· Develop and maintain effective, productive relationships with school district personnel and outside agencies to facilitate student access to community services

· With other OSA staff, conduct training for parents/guardians as needed

· With Director of Special Education/Vice Principal, implement policies and procedures designed to promote student safety

· With Director of Special Education/Vice Principal, develop a plan of professional development activities designed to support program continuous improvement

· Conduct staff professional development on issues related to social-emotional-behavioral-environmental factors that impact learning

· Conduct lunch groups or crews to foster and teach social skills

· Support students plan for, adjust to and develop skills for successful transitions in school and between grades

· Support Director of Special Education/Vice Principal with IEP monitoring and compliance as needed

· Complete IEP goals, objectives, and progress reports for students with counseling and transitional services in their IEP

· Assist in coordination of the 504 process and monitoring compliance of the 504 plans

· Provide family educational workshops on identified issues related to child development, stress reduction, discipline and safety, and teacher/family/student communication

· Conduct Home Assessments/Visits as required and needed

· Demonstrate cultural competency, including awareness that variation in family forms exists

· Serve on both school-based and system wide committees to address educational issues, adjustment problems, safety issues, and program development for students

· Provide de-escalation and crisis intervention services

· Provide social work case management for students and families

· Provide staff consultation to support and promote student participation in the learning process

· Perform other duties as determined by Director of Special Education/Vice Principal

· Observe students' behavioral and academic performance and record relevant data to assess progress

Compensation: Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
