Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Nursing

School of Community Health Sciences, Counseling & Counseling Psychology

Fall 2023

POSITION:The Nursing Program within Oklahoma State University’s College of Education and Human Sciences is seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the main campus in Stillwater starting July 2023.The successful applicant will join a collaborative team of faculty who work with and mentor our undergraduate nursing students.We are interested in scholars who have experience and interest in working with interdisciplinary teams of health professionals on educational projects. This position requires a commitment to providing a quality learning experience for nursing students in the classroom, lab, and clinical settings. The position requires an experienced nurse clinician and nurse educator who holds a registered nursing license in the state of Oklahoma. This individual shall possess a doctoral degree in nursing. This individual is expected to complete instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission and policies of the university, college, and program. The candidate must be willing to teach courses in a variety of delivery formats (face-to-face, hybrid, online) as needed, with potential of evening and/or weekend hours. Participation in program meetings, committees, and other service activities is expected.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching, Scholarship, and Service Responsibilities

  • Perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in conformity with the mission, policies and procedures of the program, college, university and accrediting agencies.
  • Evaluate and document student assignments, learning, skills, and abilities promptly.
  • Engage in scholarship that supports the mission of Oklahoma State University.
  • Serve as a resource person in areas of expertise and to other faculty and personnel of the community.
  • Act as advisor to nursing students for the promotion of excellence in academic and clinical practice.
  • Serve the university, college, and program, including committee work as appropriate.
  • Adhere to all policies within the Oklahoma State University for faculty as well as program specific policies.
  • Participate in university activities and professional organizations as a member.
  • Aid in completion of the program assessments and accreditation requirements.
  • Serve in student recruiting and retention efforts for the program.
  • Participate in curriculum implementation, revision, and evaluation.
  • Participate in professional development commensurate with program needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Assist in arranging orientation periods and clinical schedule for each rotation.
  • Be on-site and provide supervision and evaluation of students during clinical.
  • Communicate with facility staff regarding student competencies, responsibilities, and performance.
  • Assign patients for student delivery of nursing care.
  • Evaluate clinical sites.
  • Collaborate with other faculty to ensure student performance is satisfactory and experiences are appropriate.
  • Provide timely feedback to students.
  • Adhere to policies of the university, program, and facility regarding clinical.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Unencumbered Oklahoma RN license or multi-state compact required.
  • Doctoral degree in nursing or related field required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a registered nurse is required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Sufficient physical health and mobility to instruct students in various clinical and lab settings is required.
  • Ability to meet clinical agency immunization requirements and keep current with clinical facility requirements is a must.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful undergraduate teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with simulated learning experiences is a plus.
  • Proficiency with current online education software and delivery methods preferred.

Our area offers unique teaching, research, and outreach opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration with Health Education and Promotion, Gender Studies, Educational Psychology, School Psychology, K-12 education faculty, and the McNair Scholars program on campus. In the community, there are opportunities to work with underserved populations such as American Indians, gender identity minorities and/or sexual/affectional orientation minorities, and both rural-based and urban populations in and around Stillwater, and nearby Tulsa and Oklahoma City. The Counseling and Counseling Psychology programs have strong local connections to school systems and community-based agencies.
