Job Summary
GENERAL PURPOSE: Performs a variety of skilled tasks in the performance of custodial and maintenance tasks of the Oklahoma County Juvenile Bureau building and grounds.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of the Lead Custodian.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None generally.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Vacuuming all carpets, and spot cleaning as needed.
Sweeping tile floors with a treated dust mop and mopping with a wet mop to remove spills and water as needed. Spot shining and applying fresh applications of wax to tile or terrazzo areas as needed for a clean and neat appearance. Stripping, sealing, and waxing tile and terrazzo areas as needed.
Damp mopping all restrooms floors daily, as needed.
Performing regular maintenance on tools and equipment, to include cleaning and storing.
Sweeping and damp mopping steps and landings at least twice weekly, as needed.
Cleaning of elevators daily, to include walls and floors.
Opening/unlocking and closing/locking offices.
Cleaning public area glass daily, and all other glass as needed.
Turning all lights are off when finished cleaning an area.
Moving all building furniture for mopping, waxing, and other times when needed.
Intensive annual cleaning of the entire facility, including floors, carpets, furniture, fixtures, walls, glass, blinds, baseboards, doors, and all surfaces within the restrooms.
Participating in the Emergency Management Plan.
Receives consumable goods, i.e., paper towels, toilet paper, liquid soap, etc., and stores items on shelves 68" in height.
Responds to complaints of building occupants as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or Equivalent is required. Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work. Must be trainable.

Must have a telephone number where employee can be reached.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, and methods and procedures used in maintaining clean environments.
Skill in proper and safe operation of the listed tools and equipment.
Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.
Ability to work safely and independently.
Ability to communicate effectively, and to understand and carry out instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments within the building, and the public.
Knowledge and understanding of uses of chemicals for cleaning, stripping, and waxing floors.
Knowledge and understanding of the emergency evacuation plan for the building, and how to perform individual duties as assigned in the plan.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Carpet-cleaning machines, buffers, bonnets, extractors, vacuum cleaners, vacuum sweepers, wet mops, dry mops, brooms, buckets, and other equipment as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to push/pull with at least twenty (20) pounds of force to operate the secure doors within the Detention facility as needed.
Must be able to frequently lift/carry twenty-five (25) pounds and occasionally lift/carry fifty (50) pounds.
Must be able to frequently kneel/bend/crouch as necessary for cleaning purposes.
Must have the ability to listen and communicate in such a way that effective communication with coworkers can be accomplished. Frequent use of hand-held radio is required.
Must have clarity of vision and object manipulation to operate various cleaning equipment including brooms, mops, floor machines, spray bottles, etc.
Must be able to climb stairs as necessary for cleaning.
This position is primarily active, approximately 90% walking/standing and 10% sitting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
The work environment involves exposure to the general public and potential for volatile situations.
The employee may be exposed to high noise levels.
