Position starts mid-May and runs through October 20 (there may be flexibility with end date).
PURPOSE
The Recreation Specialist is responsible for helping guests/owners familiarize themselves with area attractions, region history, and Odyssey Experience activity offerings. The Recreation Specialist is responsible for facilitating guided experience tours along with onsite activities and events.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• Execute activities for guests/owners to provide an exceptional family vacation experience.
• Responsible for monitoring activity sign-up sheets and assigned tours.
• Act as a resource to communicate with guests/owners regarding complimentary onsite activities.
• Ensure there are sufficient supplies for activities and request supplies as needed.
• Maintain active certification for First Aid/CPR/AED and other training standards set forth by the Activities Director.
The Recreational Specialist may be asked to shuttle guests/owners to and from destinations using a passenger van. This employee will guide guests/owners using canoes, kayaks, stand up paddle boards, bikes, snowshoes, cross-country skis, or other outdoor recreation equipment.
Requirements
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must obtain the following certifications within one month of hire date:
· Wilderness First Aid/CPR Certification
· ACA Flatwater Canoe Safety and Rescue Skill Certification
· Coastal Kayak Level Two Skill Certification
· Lake Superior Service Provider
· Valid Driver’s License

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, use hands, reach, climb, stoop, kneel and taste and/or smell. The employee is also required to lift and and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently exposed to wet, hot, humid conditions and outdoor weather conditions. The employee will be exposed to moderate noise levels. The environment for this employee is very active, both inside and outside. The employee will use outdoor equipment needed for outdoor activities.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, the employee may be required to work varying schedules that reflect the business needs of the resort. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
