Oasis - A Haven for Women and Children is Hiring a Part-time Youth Development Specialist for After School Program PS #16 Near Paterson, NJ

Oasis - a Haven for Women and Children Incorporated is a Nonprofit 501 (C) (3) organization located in Paterson, New Jersey. We carry out educational and social services programs that help local women enter and succeed in the workforce and help children flourish academically. We also operate a soup kitchen and provide emergency food, clothing, and social support to city residents in need.

Work with a purpose! We are currently hiring Youth Development Specialists (YDS) provide academic and socio-emotional guidance to children that are enrolled in school programs located at the PS# 16 Full-Service Community School. Youth Development Specialists serve as role models by exhibiting positive behavior, age-appropriate speech, and respect for each individual child. Youth Development Specialists are expected to ensure daily academic support by doing homework with the children, provide intervention and enrichment support when required, and maintain an encouraging environment to support student growth. This position requires the candidate to work with the Program Coordinator to execute the programs as designed.

JOB DUTIES

  • Reports to PS #16 location Monday- Friday hours variey.
  • Daily set-up and prep of classroom, food, and materials ahead of program start
  • Monitors daily handwashing/bathroom routines.
  • Provides academic support to students during homework, intervention, & enrichment activities.
  • Responsible for the safety and socio-emotional well-being of all children.
  • Completes forms and reports as necessary regarding student strengths, weaknesses, obstacles, etc.
  • Responds to crisis situations according to handbook procedures.
  • Completes & submits an Incident Report (injuries/confrontations/etc.) when required.
  • Acts as role model and leader while fully always engaged with children.
  • Provides appropriate (non-confidential) feedback to children regarding inappropriate behavior & positive praise whenever possible.
  • Completes all training and professional development requirements and attends staff meetings.
  • Adheres to rules and regulations of Oasis.
  • Perform other related duties, as directed by the Full-Server Community School Coordinator and Director of Education.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have high school diploma/GED or activity enrolled pursuing a degree.
  • Must be at least 16 years old with a thorough understanding of elementary educational concepts in math and language arts.
  • Must work well with children of all age groups.
  • Must be available Monday-Friday 2:45pm-6:00pm.
  • Self-motivated, hands-on with a positive approach.
  • Superior interpersonal abilities. Ability to get along with diverse personalities, tactful, mature, flexible.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships.

  • All potential new hires will be required to submit to a multi-level background check (Fingerprinting and CARI check).
