The Registered Nurse is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to elderly patients on the Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) Unit. The Registered Nurse provides direction to licensed vocational nurses and non-professional nursing personnel in providing direct patient care. The Registered Nurse provides high quality, skilled nursing services to assist elderly patients to achieve optimum health and functional health status following an illness requiring hospitalization. Through collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals, the nurse prepares the patient and family for discharge to home or another setting for continued care.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:
Previous clinical nursing experience.
REQUIRED/PREFERRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current licensure in Texas as Registered Nurse. American Heart Association Basic Life Support. Advance Cardiac Life Support preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Interpersonal and critical thinking skills required. Excellent communication and team work skills. Basic clinical, computer & typing skills.
WORK SCHEDULE:
This unit/department is staffed to provide coverage 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. It requires working weekends and holidays. Schedules and work shifts may be changed in respect to patient procedure demands and hospital census. During low census or low procedure volumes, staff may be required (as deemed competent) to float to other campuses or nursing units, flex hours, participate in "on call" coverage, or rotate days off without pay.
