Senior Accounts Payable Analyst

Note:This is a fully remote role. The successful candidate may work from any location within the United States. Necessary equipment will be provided by NWEA.Position Summary

The Finance team serves in three major roles at NWEA: financial operations and supporting activities; financial performance management and measurement; and fiduciary stewardship of organizational resources. The Accounts Payable Analyst conducts these activities and acts cross-functionally to ensure efficient workflow, responsiveness, and operational excellence.

The Senior Accounts Payable Analyst has primary responsibility for meeting NWEA’s cash obligations and is responsible for developing and evolving efficient processes for timely and accurate vendor bill processing, resolving issues with internal and external parties, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining a high-quality payables portfolio. The Senior Accounts Payable Analyst will have demonstrated ability to operate in multiple roles, lead functions, and implement process improvements. This position will be responsible for training new team members and for managing critical business processes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the processing of transactions for all organizational payables including vendor bills, employee expense reports, and credit cards
  • Oversee and process payments including check runs, wire transfers, as well as credit card and ACH payments
  • Coordinate and manage the daily activities of the Accounts Payable analyst
  • Maintain Accounts Payable records in accordance with company guidelines
  • Own the month-end accrual process for expenses
  • Oversee the preparation of 1099’s
  • Establish and continuously improve accounts payable processes that meet the needs of an ever growing and changing organization
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all levels of management throughout the organization, as well as with vendors and suppliers
  • Proactively work with internal business partners and/or vendors to obtain the appropriate information required by Accounts Payable to process transactions; communicate with vendors to resolve payment issues and billing discrepancies
  • Recommend solutions to business partners for future expedient bill processing; meet with business partners to resolve payment issues and to educate them on Accounts Payable processes and forms when necessary
  • Demonstrate a clear commitment to the highest standards of professional and personal conduct
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the team and the entire organization

Skills and abilities

  • Fundamental knowledge of financial and accounting principles and internal controls, particularly in the technology industry
  • Ability to build relationships and work with others to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects, processes, and activities related to the procure-to-pay workflow
  • Strong service orientation and the ability to coach others with both patience and enthusiasm
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate accounts payables issues and gaps to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders at various levels of the organization
  • Strong ability to manage up to appropriate managers by keeping them regularly informed on the status of workload, status of issues, and progress of related issue resolution
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously and adjust easily to shifting priorities; ability to handle daily transactions as well as being able see the bigger picture
  • Demonstrated ability working with enterprise financial systems required; familiarity with NetSuite and Concur strongly desired
  • Deal successfully with ambiguity, manage multiple priorities, and able to achieve results during times of complex changes
  • Experience with importing/exporting data from multiple systems for a variety of uses and reporting

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field desirable. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Four years relevant procure-to-pay/accounts payable experience; with experience in high growth or fast-paced environment strongly desired
