Position Summary:

The Lead Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides instruction, care supervision to staff DSP’s and persons served utilizing an approach that is respectful, challenging, structured, and goal oriented so as to maximize each resident’s individual development. The lead DSP is responsible for overseeing and performing all daily ADL’s to the individual depending on the individuals’ skill level.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Residents vary in their skills in the following areas. The DSP is ultimately responsible for ensuring the completion of all ADL’S tasks and the lead DSP is to make sure the staff level DSP is performing the job task as written in the DSP job description. Depending upon the individual residents’ skill level, the day to day care of the individuals may include supervision, assistance or the completion of the task by the DSP. The task could include the following but not limited to for the individuals to be bathed and or toileted. In addition the individuals may need assistance in brushing teeth, washing and combing hair, applying deodorant and lotions etc,. The individual may need assistance in washing clothes and keeping the room, dressers and closets clean and neat. It is the lead ‘s responsibility to supervise the staff and assure all task are completed at a minimum to standard expectations.

Resident Directed

1) To provide supervision and attention so as to ensure the safety of residents.

  • Utilize proper handling techniques of resident’s equipment.
  • Report broken and unsafe equipment immediately to a supervisor.
  • Be aware of Fire and Disaster Procedures and to be able to carry these out accurately.

2) Knowledge of Resident Rights.

  • Treat all information regarding the resident (including their identity) confidentially.
  • Mandated reporting of any suspected neglect or abuse.

3) The DSP is responsible for the direct personal care of each consumer, which includes the following:

Direct Personal Care Includes:

  • Knowledge of the proper physical handling and/or special handling of the resident.
  • Appropriate Bathing Techniques.
  • Appropriate and oral hygiene.
  • Knowledge of and proper implementation of the mealtime procedures.
  • Knowledge of and proper communication techniques used by consumers.
  • Knowledge of and implementation of training in bathroom use.
  • Knowledge of and proper use of any appliances specifically prescribed for the consumer.
  • Perform daily and nightly bedroom checks on all consumers
  • Perform daily visual /body checks on all consumers
  • Accurate and prompt reporting to the nurse and supervisor any symptoms of illness exhibited by the resident; i.e. vomiting, elevated temperature, seizure activity, unresponsiveness, diarrhea, constipation, etc.
  • Follow instructions issued by the physician and/or nurse concerning medical orders involving the resident.
  • Call 911 in all medical emergency situations.
  • Report promptly any behavior issues to the supervisor and QIDP
  • Insure appropriate dress for weather and activity.
  • Providing assistance and follow through with self-help programs for those residents in a self-help program.
  • Complete findings reports and notify nurse and supervisor of findings in a timely manner on shift.
  • Assist with consumers with insuring their privacy.
  • Assist resident with insuring their privacy.

Program, Therapy, and Educational Responsibilities Include:

1) Knowledge and implementation of ISP’s developed for each resident, as indicated above.

2) Knowledge of the individual resident’s therapy, developmental training and/or educational schedules, includes:

  • Make sure the resident is ready and on time for scheduled programs.

3) Carry out instructional programs, as scheduled involving each individual to his/her maximum capability including: Residential Programs, ISP’s Behavior Programs, and Individual Activity Plans.

4) To use and maintain special adaptive equipment in the manner in which it has been prescribed for each individual resident. Report any broken equipment.

5) Engage residents in meaningful activities and programming.

6) Keep track of each resident’s clothing and report needed repairs and replacements.

7) Maintain neat upkeep of environment.

Charting Responsibilities:

  • Charting to be completed daily in the resident record, tracking, communication books, as well as well as behavior progress for residential program and goals.
  • Charting should be written in ink and signed with full name and title. (Black or blue only)
  • Any unusual behavior is to be reported to the Supervisor and the nurse. If medically related, contact the nurse first.
  • Record behavioral incidents on behavior incident reports and record on behavior tracking sheets.

Meetings:

  • Attend all mandatory in-services’ dates of which are posted in the home. Attendance at voluntary in-services is strongly encouraged.
  • Attend all residential meetings if working, or contact supervisor/QIDP for meeting summary.
  • Read and sign all information that is posted as general information.
  • In addition to the above, DSP is expected to perform any other work-related tasks required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • (REQUIRED) 18 years or older.
  • High School Diploma and/or GED.
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds in weight.
  • Ability to interact with individuals developmentally disabled in a caring manner which promotes their growth and further development/learning.
  • To successfully complete the DSP approved training course.
  • Certification CPR and First Aid, and Medication Administration Training.
  • Must meet State requirements (background check).
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License
  • Adherence to the Mission & Philosophy of NuCare, Inc.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
