NorthStar is looking for a Land Surveying Intern to join our Internship Program in the Summer of 2024. If you aspire to be part of an innovative and inspired group of design professionals in a collaborative environment with a commitment to quality and client satisfaction.

The Internship Program at NorthStar was built with the intern and permanent staff in mind to accomplish two major goals 1) build experience and exposure to problem solving procedures and practices, and 2) assist staff with project tasks, allowing for mentorship opportunities.

What you must have to apply

  • High School Diploma
  • College student currently enrolled or have taken a minimum of one (1) year of college level courses in an Associates or Bachelor of Science program in Geomatics, Engineering, Land Surveying, or Construction Management program
  • Strong math skills, with course work in Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus
  • Proficiency with the use of personal computers, Microsoft Office suite
  • Possession of valid California Driver’s License and clear DMV Report
  • Ability to meet the Work Environment and Physical Demands of position

Internship Goals

  • Build experience and exposure to problem solving procedures and practices
  • Assist team members with projects that allows mentoring opportunities
  • Showcase the nature of our industry to our future leaders and provide you with a chance to work on projects that improve the lives of people in the communities in which we live
  • Gain increased knowledge of land surveying techniques, equipment, and field exposure as it pertains to a multi-disciplinary firm
  • Provide surveying assistance including taking and interpreting routine survey calculations, including construction staking calculations
  • Learn how academic skills translate to the professional world as well as how general office tasks get accomplished
  • Conduct project research and other duties as assigned

Compensation

Pay Rate – $22.89 to $29.23 hourly based on relevant experience

Schedule – Temporary position (up to 3 months) Monday through Friday and 20 to 40 hours is a typical week for the intern position

Work Environment and Physical Demands of Position

Work Environment

This position will work in construction sites with construction activities, hazards and safety measures.

Job environment includes indoor (estimated 5%) and outdoor (estimated 95%) exposures; duties may include moving from one environment to another. This position entails mostly outdoor work in weather conditions that are hot, cold and/or wet.

The outdoor work is occasionally performed in high, precarious positions, and near moving mechanical parts, traffic, hazardous plants, insects, reptiles, and animals. The employee regularly works in the field exposed to conditions where the noise level may be loud. The employee may be required to wear protective apparel.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle, feel and operate survey instruments and standard office equipment; lift and climb ladders; dig with shovels and other tools; walk through and cut dense brush; walk over rough and uneven terrain, exposed to poisonous plants and other biological hazards; enter and walk within confined spaces; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is frequently required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Position requires the stamina to move throughout the job site and to complete the Essential Duties of the position.
