School Counselor
Northside Charter High School (grades 9-12) provides an educational program that results in mastery of the New York State Learning Standards, high school graduation, and acceptance to colleges and universities of choice by all students.
About the role: Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Student Services officer, the School Counselor helps students excel in education by removing all barriers to learning, which includes developing long-term planning for post-secondary education and career plans, as well as consideration for the health and wellbeing of the whole child.

Be an active participant and leader in our community including leading professional development, receiving and providing ongoing coaching and development around college and career readiness.
Collaborate closely with the counseling team and social worker to support students in attaining annual academic, social-emotional and college and career goal performance goals.
Act as a resource to students in advising and coordinating with students on their academic plans and trajectories.
Collaborate with the Chief Student Services officer and Director of Special Education Services to identify and resolve student needs and challenges.
Make oral presentations of assessments, diagnostics, and observations, in accordance with all confidentiality laws and regulations

Create and maintain systems for managing the counseling office including the master calendar, success toward articulated goals and metrics, and the development of rituals and traditions.
You are able to drive and participate in meaningful data meetings and deep dives in line with schoolwide goals and priorities.
Collect and analyze data to strategize, prioritize, and discover trends across student and alumni caseloads.
You believe in ALL students
Coordinate events, curriculum, internships and service learning for students’ post-secondary plans.
Provide mandated individual and small-group counseling services to students.
Advocate for students at IEP meetings, and in Student Support Team and Restorative Justice processes.
You believe in building relationships and community with student and staff

Promote positive culture and teamwork within the department and proactively lead inter-departmental collaborative efforts.
Communicate regularly and often with students, families and community members to gain input on and improve current programming, and to share information.
Consult with teachers to implement school counseling curriculum lessons based on college and career readiness, academic and SEL needs identified through data.
Provide counseling to students and parents (absences and restorative processes)
Collaborate with parents, teachers and staff and external partners.
Work closely with parents and guardians of all students on caseload, including evening workshops and meetings for families
Plan and lead workshops for parents on key topics (financial aid planning, different types of institutions, scholarships, etc. ) related to the college admissions process and career options.
Identify and establish relationships with partners for alumni internships, workforce development and career technical education opportunities
QUALIFICATIONS:
NY state/city experience is strongly preferred.
Knowledge and skills in trauma informed practice, cultural competency, and restorative justice education.
Fundamental belief that all students can meet rigorous cultural and academic expectations.
Master’s degree in Counseling
NYSED Licensure
NYSED Fingerprint Clearance
Proficiency in and/or willingness to learn MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook, and PowerSchool
