The School

The Beekman School/The Tutoring School, a private high school for grades 9 through 12, founded in 1925, provides a competitive college preparatory curriculum with the advantage of offering highly individualized instruction. Class size is limited to 10 students in The Beekman School and averages 7-8 students per class. The school’s mission is to provide a supportive environment in which students can realize their academic potential and achieve their educational goals, focusing on the individual and their learning needs while maintaining college preparatory standards and expectations.

Position

Full-time humanities teacher to teach English, Early World History, Modern World History, and United States History courses and semester-long electives each school year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
• At least two years of classroom experience, high school history and/or English preferred.
• Abilities to run well-managed, meaningful, appropriate, and engaging classes for high school students.
• Content specialist with a proven track record of successfully teaching students with learning differences.

Responsibilities

• Design and teach 6 academic classes (including English, Early World History, Modern World History, and United States History) and at least one elective plus one study hall each semester.
• Develop at least four electives over the course of two years, building on existing curricula.
• Demonstrate mathematical concepts through lectures, modeling, and use of technology.
• Run engaging and well-managed classroom activities.
• Collaborate with other teachers in the department to ensure that curriculum is vertically aligned and up-to-date.
• Collaborate with all teachers on cross-curricular instruction opportunities and share information to ensure horizontal alignment with other subjects across the same grade level.
• Maintain classroom space and course materials.
• Supervise weekly student advisory meetings.
• Attend and participate in weekly faculty meetings.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $72,000-$90,000, based on relevant experience. We also offer a competitive benefits package, and a warm and supportive culture.
