About the Opportunity The Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things (WIoT) is a leading research center, think tank, and technology incubator in the area of networked wireless systems, IoT, 5G and 6G, and future spectrum exploitation with unrivaled talent, federal funding, industry collaborations, and access to venture capital, creating a highly fertile environment for innovation and tech-based economic growth. Areas of excellence include AI for wireless systems, spectrum sharing, mmWave and Terahertz systems, Internet of Things, Open RAN, network security, network management and orchestration, wireless systems in extreme environments; tech policy, entrepreneurship, and innovation. To support the WIoT research efforts, this position will provide science and engineering support in the development of innovative wireless system architectures, testbed experiments in collaboration with academic, commercial and government researchers using the suite of Northeastern wireless testbeds, including Colosseum, Arena, and the testbeds in the Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research program. Successful candidates must have expertise in areas including wireless networks, 5G and 6G, IoT, network security, wireless testbeds, software defined radios, and network optimization and artificial intelligence. Interest and knowledge in experimental research using network testbeds are desirable, but not required. The Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things is funded through $20M/year in federal funding, working along higher education institutions and industry to build an ecosystem of research, innovation, and workforce development in Massachusetts. As a critical member of the research team, this position is expected to contribute to sponsored research programs as either Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Principal Investigator. This position will report to the Director of WIoT. The ideal candidate for the research faculty role will excel in collaborative team environments, possess a strong mix of experimental and analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex technical ideas. Qualifications: • A PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field by the appointment start date. • Peer-reviewed research and publication record in wireless, networking, spectrum-related issues, AI, or security • Knowledge of wireless networks and familiarity with wireless testbed research • Ability to serve as supervisor and instruct undergraduate, graduate students and junior researchers • Good communication skills and experience giving professional presentations at academic conferences and to potential sponsors • Interest in innovation and workforce development programs in wireless systems Preferred Qualifications: The rank will be determined based on the applicant’s credentials and experience. • For the ranks of Research Associate Professor and Research Professor, additional required qualifications include (1) track record in obtaining research funding, (2) serving as Principal Investigator of research projects, (3) and supervising junior researchers and/or graduate student Position Type Academic Additional Information Northeastern University is an equal opportunity employer, seeking to recruit and support a broadly diverse community of faculty and staff.
