JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:

Job Summary

The Manager of Retention provides leadership, expertise, and a strong equity-minded perspective on student success. The Manager will develop, direct and assess initiatives and services designed to increase persistence, academic goal completion, and graduation rates of students. This position provides leadership to college advising, testing, and access and accommodations teams.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.

College Retention Leadership & Oversight:

  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive retention and student success strategies aligned with the College's strategic plan (includes early alert system and predictive analytics).

  • Establish and facilitate a College Retention Committee: engage a cross-functional team to develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive student retention and academic success plan.

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret retention data to assess the effectiveness of retention initiatives and identify areas of improvement. Establish metrics to effectively assess retention efforts and advising interventions. Prepare regular reports on retention metrics, trends, and outcomes.

  • Work collaboratively and proactively with other college departments and faculty to increase student success and remove barriers for all students.

  • Provide training and professional development opportunities for faculty and staff on best practices for student retention.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in retention efforts. Develop new and innovative advising services, including efficient reenrollment of students, support for at-risk and underserved student populations, outreach to stopped-out students, and effective communication to students.

  • Provide leadership to advising team (including academic, career, and transfer advising) and Access, Accommodations, and Testing team.

Grants, Budget, Compliance:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of grants, serve as project and budget manager when appropriate.

  • Ensure that retention initiatives and activities comply with federal and state regulations, including but not limited to Title IX and ADA.

  • Participate as a member of the College's Campus Assessment, Response and Evaluation (CARE) Team as needed to provide insight and guidance to the team to aid in serving students of concern.

  • Budget Responsibilities: Ensure appropriate allocation of resources.

Minimum Qualifications Required

In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

Education:Bachelor's Degree

Experience:4 Years

Additional Experience Information:

Experience in higher education related to student retention, access accommodations preferred. Previous experience supervising staff and managing budgets preferred.

Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret complex documents; present topics to internal and external individuals of all levels.

Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions to critically create resolutions; interpret instructions in mathematical or diagram form with abstract and concrete variables.

Technical Skills:

Ability to manage and track document changes; create, modify and format templates and files; ability to use multiple computer screens and multitask in several computer applications.

Customer Service Skills:

Ability to understand complex concerns and formulate solutions; communicate professionally with various audiences in different situations.
