North Oaks Communities is Hiring a RN Charge Nurse Near Pikesville, MD

If so, North Oaks may be the right place to work full time as a Charge Nurse 7a-3:30p with an Infection Prevention focus.

The Charge Nurse is an RN who is responsible for the overall nursing care/service on the assigned shift, including the accurate and timely administration of medications, treatments, documentations, and response to emergency calls, as indicated. The Charge Nurse coordinates resident care from admission through discharge and collaborates with other interdisciplinary health care team members. Assesses residents, identifies problems, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing interventions. This position supports the Infection Prevention and Control program.


Essential Duties:

1. Supervises direct care of residents and nursing personnel on assigned shift. Delegates responsibilities to nursing personnel.

2. Orders and administers medications, performs treatments, schedules tests and other diagnostic work as ordered by physicians, and administers direct care as assigned. Receives, documents, and implements physician orders.

3. Assesses residents, identifies problems, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing interventions.

4. Gives and receives shift reports, and ensures continuity of services and care

5. Rounds during the shift to assure proper care is rendered in a safe and clean environment and to ensure that quality of care is provided.

6. Reviews weekly assessments that are scheduled to ensure completeness and accuracy on admission, annually, quarterly or with a change in condition. Assists in completing nursing assessments and initiates appropriate revisions.

7. Participates in the development of care plan review and revision, and assists in developing comprehensive care plans.

8. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director of nursing, including but not limited to performing audits, collecting information for QA process, in-servicing and orienting new employees, performing tests and treatments as assigned, and managing the resident matrix/census and census of condition.

9. Attends care plan and service plan meetings when necessary.

10. Provides direction and consistent monitoring of performance of unlicensed and licensed personnel in accordance with the policies and procedures of the facility. Provides feedback to the Director of Nursing concerning employee performance.

11. Collaborates with other interdisciplinary health care team members including resident and responsible party.

12. Ensures all required nursing orientation and staff development are conducted and recorded.

13. Monitors incident/accident reports and ensure appropriate communication of unusual occurrences are provided to the appropriate individuals. Communicates verbally and in writing all accidents, incidents, unusual occurrences and changes in condition to the Director of Nursing, resident’s physician and responsible party in a timely manner following established policies and procedures. Implements changes to protect residents.

14. Enforces Federal and State regulations by monitoring resident’s medical records, physician orders and documentation for adherence to regulatory compliance.

15. Ensures 24-hour chart checks are completed daily and reports discrepancies to the Director of Nursing.

16. Demonstrates and supervises required infection control policy and procedures. Reports discrepancies in technique or process to the Director of Nursing.

17. Documents all pressure sores, skin tears, and all infections in the Infection Control Surveillance logbook. Supervises staff compliance with completion of supplemental documents required for the event.

18. Documents significant occurrences in a timely manner.

19. Serves on the Quality Assurance Committee, CQI Committee, Safety Committee and Risk and other committees as assigned.

20. Coordinate infection prevention and adherence to State and Federal rules and regulations.

21. Conducts training sessions to ensure constant implementation of infection control practices.

22. Supports the infection control program and completes tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Other Duties:

1. Maintains the self-respect, personal dignity, and physical safety of each resident.

2. Maintains accurate documentation of all care rendered.

3. Responds to resident emergency call system in apartments with appropriate paperwork completion.

4. Interfaces with other disciplines to assure continuity of care and services.

5. Accompanies physicians when making rounds.

6. Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.

7. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

8. HIPAA Compliance – follows written policies and procedures to ensure confidentiality of protected health information.

9. Observes all safety rules and regulations.

10. OIG Compliance – follows written policies and procedures to comply with the federal and state laws and regulations.

11. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

1. Registered Nurse licensed by the State of Maryland in good standing.

2. Infection Prevention experience preferred.

3. At least 1year nursing experience; supervision and geriatric involvement preferable

4. Good communication, team building and writing skills.

5. CPR and First Aid certification.

6. Proficient in the use of computers.

7. Compliance with North Oaks COVID-19 Vaccination and Influenza policies is required for this position for all North Oaks employees. Please refer to the policy for details. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting. Must be able to stand/walk for up to 70% of the workday; must be able to lift, transfer, turn and position residents up to 50 lbs. unassisted. May be subjected to offensive odors and combative behavior. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs occasionally. May be exposed to blood and body fluids which may contain HIV and/or HBV. May be exposed to communicable diseases and must comply with proper PPE protocol and infection control policy and procedures at all times. Must be able to work paying close attention to detail with frequent interruptions.
