POSITION TITLE : Career and Technical Education (CTE) - Certified Nurse Assistant Program Instructor (103 certification to follow for 2024-2025 school year)

SCHOOL / DEPARTMENT : North Haven Haven High School / Technical Education Department

Reports to : District-Wide Administrators, Nurse Supervisor & support from CTE Coordinator

Union Affiliation : Nurse Contract

Contract Work Year : School Year

POSITION SUMMARY : Certified Nursing Assistant Instructor to plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate the competency-based CNA curriculum for student experience and credentialing.

The individual in this position will provide instruction to students and supervise their clinical experiences off-site. The CNA instructor will also be required to coordinate and communicate regularly with the clinical site's medical team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Connecticut Teaching Certificate - Health Occupations - Comprehensive HS (103)

DSAP Credentialing terms based on CSDE requirements by the 2024-2025 school year

Bachelor's Degree in a Health Occupation

Current RN License

Experience working in either a long term, acute care facility and nursing role

Teaching Experience and / or Interest in Teaching

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter; center instruction on high expectations for student achievement and demonstrate effective teaching practices.
  • Health & Medical Careers, CNA, Nursing, etc
  • Provide formal instruction and leadership in CNA as assigned while utilizing appropriate curriculum, equipment, and materials.
  • Work with CTE Coordinator to determine appropriate curriculum, equipment, and materials needed or by developing original coursework as necessary and / or required.
  • Specify, operate, and maintain necessary equipment and training modules to support the classroom instruction.
  • Prepare and coordinate students for the CNA Credentialing Exam
  • Initiate and maintain contact with local medical facilities for the purpose of promoting programs, job shadowing, CNA clinicals, advisory panel participation, and hiring of program graduates.
  • Demonstrate technological proficiency in use of computers, touch screen presentation monitors, Windows Operating Systems, Presentation Software, Google for Education.
  • Use multiple student data elements for the purpose of assessing student progress, modifying instruction and improving student learning.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community for the purpose of fostering individual student success and growth while engaging the families in the instructional program.
  • Exhibit collaborative and collegial practices focused on improving instructional practice and student learning by participating in professional learning communities, showing professionalism, and growing professionally.
  • Foster and manage a safe, positive, and respectful learning environment for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
  • Assist in development of and participate in activities designed to promote an innovative business and technology program.
  • Participate in district, regional and state CTE meetings.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contractual agreement.
  • Serve as a float nurse providing direct care to students.
  • Implement and comply with District policies, contract and procedures.

  • Skills and abilities in organization, time management, and record keeping.
  • Ability to articulate and implement the CNA standards and Department of Public Health requirements.
  • Ability to effectively address and meet a wide range of academic, social and developmental needs for all types of learners.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other professionals in a team setting.
  • Ability to interact positively and effectively with parents, students, staff, and administrators.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time. Additionally physical abilities include lifting / carrying / pushing / pulling, stooping / crouching, reaching / handling / fingering, talking / hearing conversations, and near / far visual acuity / depth perception / color vision / field.
