Summary of Work
The incumbent for this position will be asked to provide a wide variety of manual labor and semiskilled work associated with the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. The duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Perform grounds maintenance duties to include mowing grass, trimming hedges, bushes and trees, snow removal, fixing settled gravesites and sunken headstones.
Must be able to lift up to 250 pounds in a team lift effort to set and realign headstones as needed for consistency and accuracy.
Ability to perform building and equipment maintenance such as rough masonry, plumbing, carpentry, minor electrical repairs, etc; perform custodial duties as needed, change out light bulbs and install lights, fans and other installation needs such as faucet repair, water cooler repair, etc.
Perform maintenance work equipment such as mowers, tractors, weed eaters, snow blowers, and heavy equipment such as a back hoe and excavator.
Must be able to assist with trouble shooting issues with the irrigation system.
Must help maintain log of fire extinguisher service due dates, check all fire extinguishers monthly for proper operation, routine checks of maintenance of building emergency lights and exit signs.
Position requires bending, stooping, kneeling and working at different height levels.
Ability to operate heavy equipment to dig square graves at proper depth and width.
Have the ability to work in all types of weather conditions.
Requires a high degree of written and/or verbal communication skills in dealing with other employees, clients or the general public.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires high school diploma or GED and two years of work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties in one or more of the trades areas. Vocational or technical education in a field comparable to the position's primary responsibility may substitute for one year of the work experience requirement. Successful completion of interview process, reference checks and background investigation.
