Description of Work

The position is required to perform or oversee a variety of tasks ranging from general and routine maintenance to those of relatively high complexity requiring the application of knowledge and ability acquired from on-the-job training. Position is required to know proper use of equipment, and to have the ability to make decisions based on knowledge and experience. Position is required to recognize hazardous conditions and take appropriate action to safeguard the situation. Position is required to make suggestions for improvements to facilities. Basic to advanced carpentry skills, laying of foundations, digging and pouring concrete footers, installation of concrete floors, patios and driveways to finish. Lays brick and block to repair and build minor structures. Block, brick and stone masonry, framing – platform, balloon, post and beam and metal. Installing windows and doors and garage doors, drywall finishing, hardwood and tile floors, designing, building and installing cabinetry and countertops. Roofing installation that includes plywood or open decking, installation of flashing and ventilation, asphalt shingles, metal roofing, wood shingles and shakes. Travels to other facilities within the division to evaluate and oversee or perform maintenance requests by that facility. Canvasses facility problems to correct, develop estimates and implement solutions. Oversees all construction and repair work performed on facilities by contractors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • General knowledge of principles and techniques of a variety of complex trades
  • Experience inspecting and repairs buildings, grounds and small engine equipment
  • Experience overseeing and inspecting work done by others
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
Additional Expectations:
Employees must be able to lift up to 80 pounds, shoulder high. Perform assigned tasks and understand and follow both oral and written instructions, comply with all safety rules and policies to maintain a safer work environment. Employees will be expected to work in environmental conditions which include extreme cold and excessive heat conditions, exposure to noise, & dust. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification: May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
