North Carolina Dept of Transportation is Hiring an Administrative Specialist II Near Dare County, NC

We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated, and analytical individual that will provide administrative executive-level support for the NC Ferry Division Director. This position serves as direct administrative support to the highest levels of management and works as a liaison between the Ferry Director and agency managers, staff, and the public. The selected candidate will possess effective communications skills to conduct internal and external correspondence, maintain accurate and comprehensive records, and other administrative duties as assigned in support of the Ferry Director and Ferry Division.
This position will be based out of the Manns Harbor Shipyard


Work hours are Monday thru Friday - 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

Duties will include, but not limited to:

  • Managing schedules and communications, serving as a liaison between the Ferry Director, staff, and the public. This includes answering various and diverse questions with tact and diplomacy, taking messages, and directing calls appropriately for resolution.
  • Providing administrative assistance, such as writing and editing emails, drafting memos, and preparing communications on behalf of the Ferry Director. Maintain comprehensive and accurate records.
  • Prioritizing emails and phone calls; gathering documents to prepare for meetings; attending meetings and taking notes of discussions; preparing the initial draft of minutes and summaries.
  • Assist with developing presentations and white papers for internal and external audiences.
  • Complete various special projects, including creating PowerPoint presentations, financial spreadsheets, special reports, and agenda materials.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Thorough knowledge of services, policies and procedures related to Ferry Division in order to communicate and process information.
  • Demonstrated ability to compile, assimilate and organize both printed and electronic information.
  • Skill in utilizing office equipment and other relevant technology (software and systems) to meet organizational needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities; use effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly convey information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
