North Carolina Dept of Transportation is Hiring an Engineering Assistant Near Wake, NC

Description of Work

This position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits , competitive salaries and many career development opportunities.
Salary Grade: NC04 Salary Range - $31,200 - $52,813
Hiring Range: $41,496 - $43,265
The State Structures Management Unit is involved in design, construction, maintenance and inspection activities for highway bridges and other structures such as retaining walls, pedestrian bridges, box and arch culverts and sign supports on the NC highway system.
This position records data in the WIGINS Master Structure Inventory and Appraisal Data File in accordance with Federal Guidelines and the State’s recording and coding practices. Additional responsibilities include recoding and coding data element information from bridge inspection reports received from field inspectors. The chosen applicant will also record and code data element changes from 501’s and Priority Maintenance work received from Division Bridge Supervisors. This position is responsible for reading and interpreting structure plans and other documents to create bridge data records for structures added to or replaced on the State Highway System.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Knowledge of data entry methods and procedures to meet production goals, ensure accuracy and completeness with minimal errors.
  • Demonstrate ability to create, edit and process data using varied workflow processes for different cases, such as processing data for new and existing structures.
  • Demonstrate ability to participate in a collaborative approach to the completion of tasks or assignments.
  • Demonstrate ability to clearly and concisely convey information in writing to individual groups.
  • Demonstrate ability to read and interpret sketches, drawings and written technical documents, such as structure plans and inspection reports, to obtain pertinent structure information..
Additional Expectations:
Ability to update structure database. Ability to read, understand and interpret structure design plans. Ability to effectively use verbal and nonverbal skills to express routine or simple technical and/or program concepts and related facts in a clear, concise and organized manner. Ability to listen and respond appropriately to others. Knowledge and understanding of the basic concepts, practices, and theories used in the technical specialty area with limited supervision. Professional level knowledge of applicable standards, guideline, methods, and the tools involved in the performance of surveying, testing, or technical specialty area. Ability to perform a limited variety of standardized assignments in the collection and processing of data..

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
