Norfolk Public School District is Hiring a Title I Teacher Near Norfolk, VA

Full-Time and Permanent; Exempt; 7.33 Hours/Day; 200 Days/Year; 10 Months/Year

NOTE: This position is one year only and contingent on Title I funding.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • At least four years of successful classroom experience as a teacher.
  • Leadership ability (i.e. organizational, managerial, and administrative skills)
  • Personal characteristics conducive to working effectively with students, teachers, school personnel, community groups, and parents.
  • Presentation skills based on adult learning theory
  • Eligible for, or in possession of, appropriate Virginia Teaching License

Nature of Position

  • Position is responsible for instructing students in the areas of reading and/or mathematics through groups or targeted support to enable them to meet challenging state academic standards.
  • Position supports the regular education curriculum and works collaboratively with other personnel to expand student development of appropriate skills, knowledge, and interests in reading and/or math.
  • The Title I Teacher will spend at least 75% of his/her time working directly with students. The other 25% of the time is spent developing lessons, reviewing data, and attending instruction-related meetings.
  • Instructs students through literacy or math groups in accordance to division expectations.
  • Uses available, up-to-date data to determine flexible student groupings and instructional focus.
  • Develops and delivers lesson plans appropriate to the needs and abilities of assigned students.
  • Meets the needs of identified students through small group instruction.
  • Uses a variety of instructional techniques and reading/math materials appropriate for the age and skill level of students.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and creates a safe, orderly, and effective environment for learning.
  • Participates in conferences as requested to report student progress.
  • Assists with the screening and evaluation of students in reading and/or math.
  • Collaborates with others to identify instructional needs and develop and deliver professional development.
  • Participates in diagnostic instructional (DI) conferences.
  • Maintains thorough records for assigned students.
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.
  • Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the principal or other appropriate administrator.
