Norfolk Public School District is Hiring a Title I Instructional Coach-Secondary Near Norfolk, VA

Full-Time and Permanent; Exempt; 7.33 Hours/Day; 200 Days/Year; 10 Months/Year

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess and maintain the certification requirements as established by the Virginia Department of Education; this is a regular education position.
  • Possess five or more years of teaching experience, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement and working successfully with students who have the greatest needs.
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners.
  • Demonstrate strong facilitation, communication (both oral and written), and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated teacher leadership, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrate skills in using data to plan, instruct and assess.
  • Demonstrate skills in coaching strategies that improve teaching (i.e. in the moment coaching technique)
  • Demonstrate skills in using student work and performance data to make informed instructional decisions.
  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to model effective instructional practices.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth.
  • Demonstrate problem solving and organizational skills required to effectively facilitate coaching strategies and staff development initiatives.
  • Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, families and staff.

Nature of Position

  • Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the Standards of Learning and related assessments, Instructional Framework and Pacing documents.
  • Ensure understanding and implementation of the school’s Instructional Focus.
  • Facilitate walkthroughs to determine the internal capacity of the school and identify priority areas to address.
  • Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher’s professional growth and students’ success.
  • Model use of cooperative learning structures to ensure positive interdependence, individual accountability, equal participation and simultaneous interaction.
  • This is a grant funded position and is dependent on available funds.
